Km Vs. Mz When You Factor In The Hose Issue - Is Mz Really Cheaper?

I am so torn about whether to get an MZ or a KM. I admit it, I am cheap but I like quality too. I have been kind of hung up on not liking the plastic bead details on the cheaper KMs but I think I am gonna just stop worrying about it. I think I want to stick with a medium size hookah, say 30" or under and am looking at the 28" Horas MZ or the 29" Caramana KM. They are close in price, but doesn't the KM always have a better hose? If I have to get a new hose right off the bat with the MZ, is the KM not the better deal? Any thoughts on if the original hose on either of these will be usable for a while and which is a better value? Thanks - Josie

never had an mz hose. The KM hose that came with my hookah looks to be one that would last awhile, depending on how much you smoke. I bought a nammor and I'm good with that.

So you never used the original KM hose that came with your hookah? Why not? Did you just want the washable feature from day 1? I would like to keep costs down initially until I make sure I am gonna stick with this hobby so I don't want to buy an additional hose unless I HAVE to for function reasons. How do you like your nammor?

I bought the nammor before I bought my KM. I had to get a new hose due to the fact that the hose from my 1st hookah, a 29" egyptian I bought on ebay, was shot to hell. It was rusted out and you taste all the flavors that I had smoked. Then I got my KM and seing as how the nammor is washable I just kept using it. The KM hose is going to be the hose I use when I get a new base for my egyptian, seeing as how I broke the base about a week ago. I love my nammor. KM hookahs have an easy draw on them and that coupled with the easy draw on nammor, make it so easy to take monster draws with monster clouds. Edited July 7, 2008 by OC4111

the hose that came with my nefertiti kinda blows. it's functional, but the draw is diffocult, its because of the handle and the end piece
if you can drill those out then you're good to go.
if not you can get a replacement hose, i love the razan thats on mine.
heres the deal, everyone says kms smoke so much better blah blah, wtf ever, if theres a difference it is marginal at best.
i prefer MZ because of the attention to detail, clean welds and high polish shine.
some prefer KM because you can tell it was made by hand, less lustrous shine, visible weld marks, discoloration etc.
both are made by hand.

MZ hoses are just crappy egyptians. Eric has spoken that KMs are falling in quality while MZ's stay good.

I'm sure MZ's are great, I bet just as good as any other KM. But with the whole quality issue going around, I never owned an old KM, but both KM's I have received in the past couple weeks have been superb and rock solid, I couldn't be happier. Much more solid and clean than I thought they would be for being handmade.

Why don't we just say Hooray for Egyptians !!!

I like both of them extremely well they are both solid pipes. I think as of right now I perfer my MZs over my KM one big reason being when I use my phunnel on my KM I can't use my wind screen which pisses me off but on the other hand the KM hits like a truck. BOth are really solid brands but I do enjoy the more weight that KM has it feels more solid

i have had 2 MZ's and 3 KM's and just like ilikemyusername said the KM isnt leaps and bounds better but it is slightly better. as far as a hose go with a razan or KM "washable" (starting to have my doubts on the washability). as for a bowl go for a phunnel and if you have the money get a jet glass it is worth every penny

easier to get your hands on
snap on tray

KM:

old school
solid
more different styles
very solid and well built


CONS

MZ:

usually leak water into the stem and require some quiksteel
easy to bend the downstem if your not careful
lackluster bases and hoses

KM:

no snap in tray so you get juice down the stem if your not using a phunnel
slightly harder to clean some models due to design work on the stem
gaskets dont always fit right and are sometimes not level

I here you man I want an MZ and a KM just to have one of each...but the MZ I really like the Psyclone is only available on a banned vendor....so there's that "do I want to risk it" issue and the KM i want is the Tri-Metal....can't get anyone to give there's up!

yeah, i think you may have missed out on that one, but they remade the hafa, so maybe next year they'll remake the trimetal.

I wasn't a fan of the remade hafa so I am not sure if I will like the remade tri metal which I am also trying to get

both km and mz (for the most part) are made of stainless steel, the low grade. they both have nice diameter downstems.

the km hoses are nicer imo. the km vases look good until they all peel away, at least with mz my vase never peeled apart.

km has better styling imo.
