Music while smoking hookah is just a plus, but either way my choice goes to dubstep (deep bass preferably).
Reggae and local rap come second.

Here is some chill Greek music... traditional. Good for chillin and smoking hookah, drinking coffee, cleaning the house, cooking... just great background music and its very good if you can sing along. I'm not at that point yet though. Maybe I will memorize a song or two soon though :) Rambling...

We need some rocking jams for hookah time.

Obviously there is no definitive answer for this question, as people have different tastes in music. I'll go ahead and throw a list together anyway that will hopefully cover most peoples tastes and introduce some artists you've never heard of. Also, if I happen to repeat any artists from previous posts I'm sorry but I didn't quite feel like reading through 300+ posts. Genres are in my preference order starting at the top with my fav.

Post-Rock and/or Ambient (Chill)
The Best Pessimist
Explosions in the Sky
Hammock
Powder! Go Away (Album- "Laika Still Wants Go Home" (actual spelling) is a little more relaxed than their new one but both are amazing)
Sigur Ros

Beats (I'm not sure if that's the actual Genre name)
Nujabes
TOKiMONSTA
Fat Jon
Tsutchie
Ratatat (more electronic or something)

Psychedelic
Nosaj Thing
Shpongle

Alternative/rock/indie rock/hipster rock
Motion City Soundtrack
The Naked and Famous
MGMT
Gorillaz
Foster the People
The Almost
Saosin

I could keep going for a long time but I have a final to study for. :) I hope this was helpful and maybe broadened some peoples musical horizons, if not...oh well. I tried.

Haha. Thanks bro. I love listening to chill music during a sesh for sure.

One thing I have to say, is that it bugs me when someone keeps changing the music when we're smoking because I like to get into a sort of...zen mode I guess, which only happens if the music has a constant or "linear" flow to it. Im not able to enjoy myself as much when the genres are all over the place. I guess I like order when I smoke. I'm also a little picky with stuff like this, if you couldn't tell.

You should check out Blue Sky Black Death's album Noir, its kind of ambient trip hop, but I have a feeling you will really like it.

the avalanches, hip hop jazz kinda stuff like deltron 3030, mf doom, dub pistols. trip hop/downtempo with turntabalism is my thing.

"wax tailor in the mood for life" gets my recommendation for classy chill music. its like swing and hip hop mixed together.

Little Feat. Upbeat, chill, with that original California Jam Band sound.

Waiting for Columbus is the best album.

We have also put together the 80's rhapsody list at my local lounge for when it just us in there before they actually open. :)

Wow. I don't know anyone other than myself who listens to Explosions in the Sky and Hammock. Or the Naked and Famous for that matter.

We have similar tastes. You should check out M83. The albums Saturday = Youth and Hurry Up We're Dreaming are both pretty amazing. Especially the tracks "We Own the Sky," and "Midnight City," respectively.

Also check out Empire of the Sun. Walking on a Dream is the only album I'm aware of, and it's fantastic.

And I'm going to add Bela Fleck and the Flecktones on this pile for some bluegrass/jazz/funk/soul fusion. Very, very chill music.

EDIT: Also check out Hot Chip. And everything by Daft Punk. "Something About Us," off of Discovery, is a fantastic smoking track. Edited by Killface
