New Hookah - Grommet Troubles *$&@

Recommended Posts

So my MZ 48" came in today. I'm setting it up, but the freaking thing wont go into the base. The stem just wont go into the base. I think i got it really close once, but it slid right back out. Is there some secret or something?

yea, i dont have any sandpaper or anything so i took a razor and somewhat cut it down. It fits a little bit, every once in a while it works itself loose so i have to shove it back in.

i love it though! tongue.gif

You can also use a course metal file to remove some of the extra rubber. File perpendicularly to the stem on the grommet itself, rotating the stem as you go. It will take you 5-10 minutes to file enough off of it but it will take enough off so you can fit it into the vase.

I had to do that on my old Egyptian....each grommet I tried was too snug to fit more than 1/8th of an inch of the grommet into the vase. Five minutes with the file and it fit like a glove.

Ah yea, ilikemyusername, it is tapered - good point. I'll start at the top of the grommet and work my way down. Thanks for that tip. hopefully itll work like a charm after i'm done with that

Also, if you live near a store that sells hookahs, take your stem and base and try on different grommets. The one that came with my tall KM was too big. I got it on there tight but it took me about a dozen trys and 2 to 3 hours to get the damn thing off. Now the ones that I have fit perfect without hassle.
