KipMaslonka
So my MZ 48" came in today. I'm setting it up, but the freaking thing wont go into the base. The stem just wont go into the base. I think i got it really close once, but it slid right back out. Is there some secret or something?
r1v3th3ad
buy a new grommet ftw...you can get them for $5while you wait for the newie...wrap a moist cloth around for a decent seal
Tati
Is the grommet wet? That makes it easier to slide it in.
codeman021
but it will be a bitch to get off......i had to kinda of sand a few layers off of my KM gromet to make it fit right
KipMaslonka
yea, i dont have any sandpaper or anything so i took a razor and somewhat cut it down. It fits a little bit, every once in a while it works itself loose so i have to shove it back in.i love it though!
ilikemyusername
sounds like its tapered, i'd remove some more around the top and work my way down.
vaypourus
You can also use a course metal file to remove some of the extra rubber. File perpendicularly to the stem on the grommet itself, rotating the stem as you go. It will take you 5-10 minutes to file enough off of it but it will take enough off so you can fit it into the vase.I had to do that on my old Egyptian....each grommet I tried was too snug to fit more than 1/8th of an inch of the grommet into the vase. Five minutes with the file and it fit like a glove.
KipMaslonka
Ah yea, ilikemyusername, it is tapered - good point. I'll start at the top of the grommet and work my way down. Thanks for that tip. hopefully itll work like a charm after i'm done with that

MechAnt
Sand paper some more down. If you need to, take the grommet off and rub it on a curb edge to sand it down. That and the wet grommet will help a lot.
MrMoodz
Also, if you live near a store that sells hookahs, take your stem and base and try on different grommets. The one that came with my tall KM was too big. I got it on there tight but it took me about a dozen trys and 2 to 3 hours to get the damn thing off. Now the ones that I have fit perfect without hassle.

Codename067
Sand it DOWN! Thats what I did when that sucker was too big to fit my Syrian Base. You see, water is like lube..the more you got, the easier the job is going to be.
