personally, i have a feeling obama will win. my reasons are because:

obama is young (compared to mccain)
obama is charismatic
people think mccain is just a bush copy, and people dont want another bush in office

those are my reasons, because most people vote only cuz they have to. so they'll just vote based off image, and obama seems to be putting out the better image than mccain. you dont know how many people ive asked about who they're voting for. nearly all of them said obama, only because hes "black". im not being ANYWHERE near racist. im sorry if i offend anyone with that comment. this post can be deleted if anyone feels that way. but thats just what everyone pretty much said. its pretty sad actually, that they will vote only on projected image, and not on what the candidate is really going for.

for me, i dont know yet who i will vote for. but if i was gonna vote for obama, it wouldnt be for those reasons above. it would be for something better. if i was gonna vote for mccain, it would be for something worth while, not because i feel sorry for the guy.

hope this somewhat helps.

Here's What I think:

McCain will win -its already been decided- he has to, because the republicans are not finished in Iraq.

Obama, sadly, will loose this one, and will have a much greater chance at winning during the next election.

I stand by my statements. If Obama wins -which I really hope he does-, I will send a free AF Mint to someone that has posted above my posts. You pay shipping of course =D

And oh, your votes do not count, don't bother voting, its all nothing but an illusion to make you feel like you are in control and that you got a choice, when there is NOTHING you can do to stop what "they" have already chosen.

All the american goverment has ever done is kill innocents, do you really believe American army went to Iraq for Saddam Hussien? Bloody Oil!

And as far as Obama goes, he has already issued warning to Pakistan that he will attack Pakistan-Afghanistan border with or without Pakistan's army's support which area includes a major city of Pakistan, Peshawar which will be left like any city in Irqa or Afghanistan. Read Obama's policy on Pakistan or just google it will come up!

To answer the OP I'd say Obama. Not that I have any say in the matter.

I am fascinated though by the poster that accused socialist governments of controlling the people of the land it works in. Ignorance is bliss.

I'll be watching your election from one of the worlds few truly free countries and I wish you good luck. smile.gif

Now now, let's be fair. They've also economically exploited innocents, raped innocents of their cultures, and set up corrupt fascist puppets to tyrannically rule over innocents with brutal military regimes.

And Iraq was just as much about geopolitical power games as it was about oil.

The government of Sweden is a constitutional monarchy based on parliamentary democracy. The affairs of the government of Sweden are directed by a cabinet of ministers, which is led by the Prime Minister. The cabinet and the Prime Minister are responsible for their actions to the Riksdag, which is the parliament.

Taken from Wikipedia.

We used to be led by the swedish social democratic party and was so for many years, however they lost to a/the moderate party. Hopefully we wont have to endure them much longer. Only time can tell.

If you are interested I suggest you read on at wikipedia, it's not much text but concludes the important things. smile.gif

Oh and btw, about our king, yeah, it's embarassing, he's only good for show, he does not actually do anything. He's kind of a buffoon really but I guess he keeps us down to earth. I dont think we should get rid of him or nor his heir.
Another good thing about Sweden is that a person that has a gun in his home would either be refered to as a cop or a hunter (they only use rifles so I dunno what I refered to them) or a weird person, preferably someone you'd want to avoid.

Sorry for going so much offtopic, I really am. It's mainly just copied text anyways. Edited by Snacks

The same should be said for government in general. As long as we have these 'special people' who we have appointed to lead us, and tell us what we should and shouldn't do... there will be no peace, and there will be no freedom.

All these things that 'Iraq was about' are ultimately equivalent to power. Iraq was about Power in general. Money is power, influence is power, and land is power (especially land that holds oil, because oil is also a source of power).

In the interest of objectivity... Every single US president since WW2 has started at least one illegal war, usually against democracies and almost always against the relatively defenseless, with the sole exception of Ford. Can you name another government with comparable figures? tongue.gif

But no, I do agree that generally all states rely far too much on violence as a solution to problems. Except for, you know, Costa Rica which doesn't have an army, or Scandinavian countries who haven't gone to war since guns were invented. Edited by gaia.plateau

What Scandinavian country are you thinking of my moose-headed friend? I can't think of any that have not been in a shooting-war!Sweden and Poland shot the piss out of each-other in 1701 (or 02, that history class was so long ago I think I drown those particular neurons in Laphroaig sometime in the 80's) Then King Charles tried to invade Norway, and got shot in the face for the effort (literally). They had a little "problem" with Russia, and it ended with Russia gaining Finland. Gustavus Adolphus invaded denmark, and shot away at the Hapsburgs in the 1600's. Norway was heavily involved in WW2, and has been one of the bigger constituents of NATO. Finland? Well, they seem to like to fight with about anyone, and are rather good at it... ask a Russian! Leaving only Denmark, and they have done well at shooting at Germans, Poles, Austrians along with a few Scandinavian neighbors and the occasional Frog. The Northern 7-years warKalmar War30 years Northern WarThorsteinsson WarCarl Gustav KreignenSanske KrigStor Nordiske KrigKanonbadskrigenFørste Slesvigske Krig/Jutland1Anden Slesvigske Krig/Jutland2 All fought with firearms... Aye, they are good at looking at their neighbors through iron sights. (apologies to any Nordics who find my spelling horrifying, and likely missing a few good bloody wars)The problem with the USA is that while "we" (as a nation...) talk human rights, then we have a place like Guantanamo. We lecture china in their use of capitol punishment, then strap some mentally handicapped guy to a gurney and drug him to death in Texas. We talk about "tyrants" in Iraq and then we throw 20 year old people in a privately run prison for 20 years because they had 2 grams of something they shouldn't. We talk about compassion, and empathy, then put the parent that accidentally backs over their own child in jail for life. (as if they didn't have enough misery already) Yep, it's easy to see why the rest of the world thinks the USA is full of crack-pots. (then just to make it all even better we tank our economy through a massive uncontrolled orgee of greed, in the process cocking-up the rest of the world's finances... you are welcome! :})Israel wants Obama to be elected for what??? Better double-layer that aluminium leaf hat... the rays are still getting through!I would expect there is either a deal in the works, or Israel is planning to take out akma-dinner-jacket in their own time. Man, I am not retyping that disaster, and I am not some retard that has to type everything as a single, mindless paragraph... The beta of microshafty-explorer 8 doesn't seem to deal with the forum very well. But then, it is a microshaft product. Edited by TheScotsman

Yeah, the US presidents have been shit. Hahaha, no contest there.

I was talking more the idea of the state in general. And I never limited it to plain physical violence whether internal or external... I was talking more about how governments use the threat of force to coerce the populace into paying taxes, behaving a certain way, and in some cases even believing and thinking what and how they are 'supposed to'.

A group of thugs stop a man in an alleyway. Whether they beat him and steal his watch, or intimidate him into giving it to them they are still violating his rights. Sometimes the threat of physical violence is actually more effective than violence itself.

Or most effective of all, convince him that his watch supports terrorism and homosexuality.

ok, here's my opinion. Just a change of pace from recent posts. I'm not the most politically versed person so don't get too worked up about it, this opinion is based off pure logistics.

We have a large percent of U.S. citizens in poverty, the majority is a group who did not go to college BY CHOICE. Therefore by choice they chose to not have a higher income job. So why would we support tax cuts for those individuals who chose to have their lower income? Why would we penalize people who chose to take the high road, invest money in a education and do something with their life? I know some circumstances inhibit people from going to a large state college etc. however there are community colleges which are affordable to anyone with a 9-5 minimum wage job. Unless of course you MUST lease an extravagant SUV with 24" rims. An associates degree in my opinion should be a higher priority than a "tight whip." Alot can be done to boost an income and prevent poverty as long as you choose so. So my question really isn't with the rest of the policies, it's with these tax cuts. I know some people are born into poverty and some are born into riches but we can help that, look at a lot of professional athletes....most don't come from the most fortunate of backgrounds to say the least. All I'm saying is you make a choice early on in what type of lifestyle you choose to live, we shouldn't penalize the people who choose to live a lifestyle that provides them with much more benefits than a guy flipping burgers at mcdonalds (no offense).

^^I wish I lived in a world where "Community colleges are easily affordable for anyone with a 9-5 minimum wage job." Sorry to tell you, but I dropped out of "Community College" Because I couldn't afford it.

But I guess I see your point, I am going back this winter, but it will be with loans. Unfortunately I made 13k last year and since I'm under 24 it doesn't matter that I live alone and support myself and my g/f (who is a full time student) in the case of FAFSA. But I would much rather be in debt from paying for school than for a "Tight Whip" as you put it smile.gif. But that doesn't take away the fact that I'm scared shitless of borrowing this much money then have something happen where I have to drop out and just be stuck with the debt.

-1 for thinking it's this simple for everyone.

+1 for understanding that investing in your education is something nobody can take away from you.

I will also say that I'm glad I can come back to HookahForum for a good argument where you hear from both sides. Sorry, was reading a thread on s10forums.com (I go there to see what's for sale for my S10) and all of the hillbilly crap they were talking was ridiculous...and how many of them used Fox News as their references saying it was only "Slightly Right Wing." Haha, sorry, just had to say that, smoke on! Edited by brownbob06

Hrm, I must have missed that too... because I don't even register to vote.

Not because I don't care, but because I don't want to have a hand in supporting any government... because one way or another I'd be supporting all manner of crimes against my fellow man. I'm not a terribly religious person... but it still just seems very wrong.

Thanks yinz who do support our govt through voting though. Thanks for helping fuck everything up for the rest of us. Greatly appreciated... sleep.gif
