I've always heard it called a grommet so thats what I started calling it. Kinda stuck in that habit. Oh well. And yes I will call it whatever the fuck you want if it gets me a mini phuneel because lets be realistic, I would do a lot worse for one anyway. lamsey_woot3.gif

Its hot today and my patience is at an end!

Those rubber things...between the head and the shank, between the jar and the shank and betwen the hose and the hose port are gaskets. NOT Grommets.

Well after perusing hardware stores and seeing them binned as grommets (or grummets as the British would say), I've concluded they are grommets improperly used as gaskets. Unfortunately none were of usable sizes for a shisha.

Can we just call them gromskets from now on and giggle if a vendor starts marketing them as such?

Those cloth things that you stick on notebook pages, so the holes of the paper don't rip out? Those are grommets.

Actually, I do believe the proper terminology for them is "paper assholes". Edited by foibled again

QUOTE (Gasket)
A gasket is a mechanical seal that fills the space between two objects, generally to prevent leakage between the two objects while under compression.

QUOTE (Mechanical Seal)
A mechanical seal is a device which helps join systems or mechanisms together by preventing leakage (e.g., in a plumbing system), containing pressure, or excluding contamination.

Most gaskets are used between two objects and compression is key. I think that gasket may be too specific and require more significant amounts of pressure.

I believe the best choice would be a general mechanical seal because gasket is too specific.

I'm going to make a proposal -- everyone on this forum will acknowledge the proper term to be gasket in exchange for another round of minis. I think I speak for everyone when I say that's reasonable.

I will call it a gasket when we get more minis

seal indeed

clubbing baby grommets ftw

And one of them tried to dress up as a seal and was promptly eaten by a shark. Let that be a lesson to you all. Say no way to seal play. biggrin.gif
