Hookah Duration

Now when I read all of these reviews I see people getting at a minimum an hour....I don't think I've ever squeezed an hour out of any of my hookahs.

I've been at it for a little over a year now...have had my big ones break so I'm back to my minis (~13")

Now I've maybe been able to pull off a session at about 30 minutes or so at most...and I just really want to figure out what im doing wrong here.

I have two bowls...one like this



and something along the lines of this



I use the smaller one becuse for some reason it feels like it hits harder.


Now is it because I'm using the tiny one that it's not lasting...or is something else not right? I poke about 3 rows of pin size holes with a slight larger hole in the center and two 33mm coals

not enough tobacco and way to much heat for that size bowl! i wouldnt use 2 whole 33mm QL on that larger bowl.

try using like 2 havles on one and poke more holes

Both those bowls look pretty shallow.. I can say from personal experience, the first bowl you have pictured is a conservation bowl, when I did have one of these most of my sessions only lasted about 30-40 minutes. Also try moving your coal a bit, start it out on the edges and move in a spiral around eventually ending up in the middle. ALso, 1 coal, 2 was too much when I had it. You may wanna think about a different bowl like a standard Mya, SS bowl, or something a little more deep. Edited March 31, 2008 by Shifty

try purchasing a small phunnel bowl.
that will last you well over one hour.
if a small seems like too much for you to smoke alone then pick up a mod.

i dont think there is too much smoke for me =P The small one pictured is a bit smaller than the actual one I have..but I can usually squeeze about 4-5 sessions out a 50g. The other one I could maybe do 1-2 sessions with 50g.

I live in probably the only city in California that isn't big into anything and is like 10 years behind on the curve and there's only one local dealer. I usually go to her store because it's right there and I dont have to wait for shipping...but the prices are a bit crazy (6-7 bucks for 50 grams of either king moassel, al falkher and layalina) and the coals she sells just flat out blow...like rollands.

I just ordered up some 3 kings (coals I started with....took quality for granted..) and a 200g of Fantasia pink lemonade from MN hookah...so that's on the way out. I also was lucky enough to get in on the potion sample, so I should have a decent amount to experiment and smoke.

I have the upper bowl, its a modern bowl. I can squeeze out hours of smoking with it...its just the packing and the heat. I either use a tight packjob with a lot of heat or a fluffy packjob with minimum heat

I dont like that first one, I have one and it prevents me from getting really smooth hits. I always use my traditional clay bowl unless I want to use my funnel for Tangiers.

Yeah I really dont like the top one either...the smoke is about as plentiful as a regular cigarette...so it's not much fun at all

Its already been said, but eh...why not beat the dead horse? Pick up a new bowl, and use less heat, with more management

there are several traditional and phunnel bowls forsale in the trades section for DIRT cheap

I have a similar to your first bowl, smoke 90 minutes easy

also tried a bowl last night that has a shallowness of the second bowl. Man it hits hard. I can buzz myself stupid in a few minutes, but the session won't ever break 30 minutes!

I get massive clouds from it...that one for my pic is from that bowl...just gotta learn how to use it I guess, like a screen, took me a while, but it works great for me

If I had a stockpile of shisha..I'd be one happy dude..but I rarely order stuff and my local stuff is only 50 grammers...which is basically filling up it and having enough left to fill up my small bowl. It sucks when you're paying 6-7 for 50gs...just not worth smoking the big bowl

Oh I know...I only buy it from here because I only really buy it when I have people over...unless I order a few 250's online.

i was getting stuck with shit shisha and horrible rolland and cheap quickies... just going to stick online. Once I get new stuff....I just smoke entirely too much ahaha

yeah I know...it was just a convenience thing. Waiting for stuff isn't my strong point hahaha...i will probably be doing it from now on though. Plus..cant deal with these cheap ass QL's anymore, i started with 3 kings and they were fine, these things are total trash. I mean a whole 10-15 mine and they're completely out.

Yeah when I had al-falkher...few quick puffs to get it going and I dry heaved. That sucked.

But I'm getting decent coals...good shisha (for once..) and hopefully it's what it's cracked up to be. I have like a 28" with a broken base...so I ended up picking up like a little 14-16incher and its been pretty good. I had a little pumpkin one and that was decent...but yeah, i can take some rips and sometimes its just not enough

get a mya standard bowl but make sure the interior is glazed and always pack it a little loose with mine when i pack it right i can get a good 2 hour session which tops my phunnel (sorry die hard phunnel fans but i have never liked the phunnel)

the inherent problem is, all the juice (glycerin and flavorings) will drip out of the bowl with heat, so you may be smoking for 2 hours, but theres 0% chance youre getting good flavor. I simply won't believe your word on it, no offense or anything i've used non phunnel bowls for 6 years and theres no secret way to prevent juice from flowing out. the phunnel actually keeps the flavor going which I think is the most important part. i noticed the difference the first time i used the phunnel
