vendetta_revived Posted July 15, 2011 Share Posted July 15, 2011 What did I do to upset the Tangiers Gods? :sad44: I was washing my crown micro phunnel after smoking AF mint and just as I was done and was taking it back, it slipped out of my hands......it hit a slab just may be 6 inches below my hand and god did I have to pull out some moves to stop it from falling down on the concrete floor! Too bad the slab itself was of granite. [img]http://img402.imageshack.us/img402/1026/photo0175k.jpg[/img] I checked and it still works.....but it's broken and I am so sad. Do you think someone who deals in glass cutting could fix it for me? I tried a method with oil and hot metal that I had experimented with as a child and it worked on a normal glass bottle but not on this, given it's resistance to heat. vendetta_revived Posted July 15, 2011 Author Share Posted July 15, 2011 It was my first phunnel and I have literally not smoked out of another bowl since I got it...it was simply amazing. Well, still is actually. It works as I mentioned, just that I will have to first put it on the hookah and then foil it and be REALLY REALLY careful when I wash it. India is a mecca of glass blowing, there are a ton of lampworkers there. You have a few options, you can use a wet drill and trim the broken shards down and flame polish them, or you can flame cut them, which is a far more practical application. I hope this helps! poncho Posted July 16, 2011 Share Posted July 16, 2011 (edited) hey, if you have a rotary tool like a dremel, (a flex shaft for it is very helpful but not necessary) you can get the diamond tile cutting bit for it. Slap one of those wheels on and under water if you gently rotate the piece around the bit, you will be able to cut it nice and clean and it wont leave a sharp edge. I actually happen to have a video on youtube of me using my Dremel EZ Lock Diamond Wheel on the flex shaft mounted to a piece of wood and it works like a great little saw. I'm a glass artist, and I cut glass pretty frequently like this, you dont need to mount in on a piece of wood, but it's very helpful. I just use a bucket with a hose and siphen the water onto the blade. I also mounted a piece of a plastic cup as a shield so the water doesn't get all over your face. WEAR SAFETY GLASSES!! Also a bit of a interesting and helpful point is that the blade wont cut you. You can run your finger on it and unless you press really hard, you'll be fine. (I'm not liable if you do cut yourself, this is just my experience). You might want to wear some sort of gloves so just in case you somehow slip and you wont cut your fingers. Also -- very important -- if at any point you see a bunch of white glass dust shooting off of the piece your cutting, stop and make sure your getting enough water on the piece that this doesnt happen. You might even want to consider doing it under a sink faucet, I did that for a few years and it works pretty well expect your going to get water all over your face unless you hold it all at the perfect angle. Sure, they must be used by people in glass cutting even here, but I don't know where to get them, and isn't that expensive btw? Thanks though, but I think I am gonna go with Santino's advice, because when doing it yourself, you'd have to be very mindful of the pressure and what not, and I am sure you guys have lots of skills in it and I have never done anything like it, so I'd rather not take a chance.
