Khalil Troubles

Recommended Posts

Okay,
So, my buddy and I have been smoking for about a year. We have a Khalil Mamoon... and we cannot get a good bowl with it. A good session has become a rare occurrence, but I know this is a good hookah. The water level is covering about 1 inch of the stem, and we have been using mostly quicklights and al-waha. A store near us sells only these coals and this shisha. We have ordered other kinds of shisha and coals, but this always happens.

We can get great sessions with other hookahs, but the best reviewed hookah we have is the KM. We make the bowls perfectly, and everything... but the clouds are weak and the flavor is bad. Is there something different we have to do with this hookah specifically?
Well, any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated.

What other hookahs have you tried? Are you using the same bowl for the KM and the hookah(s) that you've had more success with? Tested if the KM is air-tight?

Also, what coals are you using? "Three" sounds like to much to me, but I guess it depends on the coal and shisha.

We usually use two starlights (Which is just what is easiest to get for us), or we use three coconuts.
We've tried many different coals.
The other hookahs are just off-brand, KARMA store-bought hookahs. My girlfriend has two smaller ones (Which can get better sessions than we have been having with the khalil), and me and my friend have a three-hose , a four-hose, and a one hose. Everything is air tight too.
I can't find any kind of a problem.

The smoke you are getting, is it harsh at all? Can you get us some pics of your bowl packed with and without the foil? What kind of hole pattern are you using? I like to use one shaped liked this #, and each line and i do double rows of toothpick sized holes, and then a slightly bigger ones in the sqaure gaps.

We cleaned the hookah like crazy, and it works a little better. I've just been doing basic hole poking. toothpick sized rings leading into the center. I'll try the pound sign though.
Thanks again

my km is big compared to most of my hookahs, and so is the bowl. I find to get it smoking good I have to use a lot more heat than most of my other hookahs, the next closest in size being a mya 32, I believe my km is 36. I find I usually just use it for decoration or if a lot of people are smoking, as it uses much more tobacco than my other hookahs, so is a waste on just me.

I suppose I could use a smaller bowl than that which comes with it but right now I only have one bowl for each of my hookahs, next time I make an online purchase I'll pick up a couple extras just for backups and maybe a smaller one for my km.

i was going to ask what bowl you are using and packing strategies, but damn boy thats a lot of coals.

like others have said, your problem is heat management! some people throw on too much coals thinking they will get larger smoke clouds. not saying this is what your doing, but just try less coal and see how that works. Edited by 1Love

If you are able to get good smoke from other hookahs then it won't make a difference unless your hose is ruined or your hookah is VERY VERY dirty. You can move a good bowl from one hookah to another and it should smoke the same.

Coals and hose man, that's what it's going to come down to.

If you enjoy AW in other hookahs, then that's not the problem.

Coals:
1) too many of them
2) bad placement
3) foil pattern

Hose:
1) probably rusty as shit

Take the hose with nothing attached and pull thru it, if you get your mouth coated or get anything in your mouth from it, it's time to grab a new hose or diy and fix it.

So, 2 starlights is to many coals?
I'll try one with a wind cover.

I have no camera around, but I know the packing is right, and the hole pattern is basic. Just rings leading to the center.
I can get a great bowl in different hookahs, just not the KM.
But yeah, the crap coals and crap shisha is probably a large factor in my failure.
Thanks, I'll try less heat.

This makes zero sense to me. If you get great bowls on different hookahs grab the bowl and the coals of the other hookah and put them on the KM. The hookah doesn't make that much of a difference. And if for some reason a great bowl from hookah A doesn't smoke on the KM then theres something wrong with the hookah.

V, Sorry to say, but I will strongly disagree with that statement.

I have done this many times on my Hookahs..they don't all preform the same.

The performance is close, but not the same.

Hookahs are not created equal.
