Krakatoa
You pack your Tangiers properly, lots of flavorful, thick clouds, no harshness at all (you know the rest... ) & after an hour or so, it starts to get a little harsh no matter how much/little heat you have on. (The bowl is very hot to the touch.) You remove the coals, let the bowl cool off for a bit, put the coals back on & it's smoking perfectly again. Weird, no? This is a Med. phunnel, FYI.Didn't Mushrat say something about having to cool off a phunnel after a while? I tried a search & no luck.
EternalSoil
uh... no. this doesnt happen to me. sometimes when i put new coals on it does this though!
ZenSilk
No, the bowl does get super hot, and mushrat did say something about it somewhere. I have never had it smoke harsh for that reason though. Myabe i just didn't notice. I'll find otu tonight.
gaia.plateau
Does purging and repositioning the coals not rectify the problem?
ZenSilk
Ther Phunnel does stay hot unless coals are removed... But purging would rid your vase and stem and hose of burnt smoke.
mushrat
yup..i have noticed that the bowl sometimes gets superheated and no matter how little coal you put on it, it tastes hot. I usually let the things sit without coal for a 3-4 minutes and its fine....Remember I pack a LOT of Phunnels and this has only happened a handfull of times, not a regular thing. Scheetz
Never noticed an issue of that sort. However, we did have 4 people smoking from a small phunnel bowl for over 3 hours. 2 hose hookah and constant pulling, I was quite surprised that the Tangiers lasted that long with flavor. Snoopy1966
Yes please mushrat show us your Phunnel packing tips. Yes Tangiers really holds its flavor. I smoked Blueberry last night for almost 3 hours and it was still going strong, taste and smoke and no harsness. I had to hang the hose though, that was enough for me

One of orange soda, the other peach ice tea...thats 5 hours PER bowl. I know mush has had just a long or longer I believe.
Snoopy1966
I could have easily started up the same bowl from last night, but I was careless in my ashing again...to much focus on gaming also a large Phunnel is a bit to much for one person. I can't wait until I get the small and medium. Edited December 22, 2007 by Snoopy1966
EternalSoil
haha, i always save bowls. i just let the coals burn out and walk off...start up new coals and put them on the unsmoked part
Snoopy1966
Thats what I do too. I just put the coals on one place and leave them until the burn up. Then I scrape it all off and put on another set. I can usually go three sets of coals and that is enough. I don't understand why I get so much ash sometimes and none most of the time. I will be getting my first try at Exocticas also. I have to wait unti the 26th to get my shipment from H-C. They must be busy! I ordered on Tuesday, but I do not like to pay extra for the quick ship, I do not see the point, unless of course you are Jonesin' for a Shisha session
mushrat
Guys, I don't know what to tell you. I pack the tangiers in, I poke 2 lnes of holes around the outer edge, one hole in the middle, add coals and smoke for a day or 2.

Krakatoa
Actually, the bowl I'm smoking right now (med phunnel w/ blue gumball) I packed a week ago! I've gotten a total of about 8 hours of smoking in--and it's still more than half wet! This stuff lasts forever!
