I've got the original Droid right now and love it, it's the best phone I've had so far. I came from a BB Tour, which was great, but the Droid blows that BB out of the water. As far as what Bri said, I have heard problems with the VZW release of Android 2.2 (Froyo) OS, but I believe it has been fixed or is being fixed very soon. On the other hand, because the Droid was so customizable/hackable, I've been running a flawless version of 2.2 since mid-July. I've also overclocked my Droid (from the original 550mhz to 1.2ghz) and have never had overheating, battery drain problems, etc.
I know the Droid2 was just released and other than practically being the same as the original it does have some upgraded hardware and I believe has already been rooted (hacked) which is just a little added bonus, if you're into that kind of thing at all.
Like Bri said, I was expecting to use the keyboard a bit since I had been used to a physical one in the past, but I use the touch keyboard about 99% of the time. The physical one is great for games, but that's about it.
