Haha voski....I used to think that same thing. People would be doing it right now if the alternator really could keep up with the current draw of your booster.

It doesn't work, you would have to add more batteries, or add another way of charging them at the same time such as how hybrids batteries get recharged when they brake.

I thought in theory it works like a normal engine except it burns hyrogen not gasoline. Are you saying water powered as in your splitting H20 and then burning it? Or directly pumping hyrodgen into the tank?

Right now all a hydrogen booster does is allow you to lean out your fuel mixture, then burn the smaller amount completely. This means better gas mileage.

A water powered car would burn just hydrogen and oxygen since both are products of the electrolysis, but if you did that it would take mad batteries to keep up, or a better way of splitting the water up.

guys, really, think about it

to run on water completely you would need above 100% energy transfer.

this is impossible.

if you are charging the battery with the hydrogen you split from the oxygen to power the engine to turn the altenator. and then putting enough energy to maintain that cycle.. well its just not possible, than AFTER THAT you still have move the car....

i guess now that i think about it, hydrogen powered is a little bit like charging your car (ie super/turbo)

also, on the subject of driving around a mini hydrogen bomb... the idea is you produce hydrogen on demand. ie not store it. Hydrogen has a very low energy density, to store enough to even come close to the energy density of petrol youd have to have it under extreme pressure, which is very dangerous! hence why we dont see many of them around!

electric powered vehicles are the only way forward, however until we find a lightweigh viable power source they still wont quite beat gas power for convinience.

and another thing i dont like about this is...
the technology to achieve and knowledge to implement hydrogen boosting has been around for YEARS.. if it was worth having... wouldn't every auto manufacturer have jumped on the bandwagon? i mean. filling your car with water is not a hassle. it would be as simple as changing washer fluid.

I just came across this thread, it seems like it is dead but just in case someone comes across this and decides to try it... I didn't read all 7 pages but if this hasn't been said yet: If built as OP instructed THE COIL WILL BE AT LIVE WALL VOLTAGE when turned up high, and depending on the potentiometer and if wired correctly THE SHAFT OF THE POTENTIOMETER COULD ALSO BE AT LINE VOLTAGE. This will most likely flip your circuit breaker or burn out the wire, but still requires warning. For SEVERAL REASONS the plan given is EXTREMELY DANGEROUS and I hope nobody without electronics knowledge has tried to build this thing. At the very least you would need a series resistor to keep the maximum power reasonable, but to keep this from burning your house down PLEASE use a fuse and a transformer/power supply to isolate this thing from the plug. If you do not know how to do that please stick to coals. Sorry I'm new to the forum and normally lurk but I had to say something when I read this. If a mod reads this could they possibly put a disclaimer or something on the thread? This kind of stuff kills people.

Anyone know how to make a ceramic housing for an element? Seems like that would be ideal, but rather hard to implement... I am going to do some calculations and work out a triac circuit soon to control the temp of the heating elements. Will let you know what I come up with.

I'm using an electric 'coal' right now. It needs a wind guard (to keep the air around it warm between puffs, so when you pull it doesn't have cold air rush in to cool it) but other than that it's great
