Another Home Made Hookah Thread

Recommended Posts

i have a few old vases laying around and after seeing mushys thread on the wood hookah stem i have decided to turn my own out of oak or burl maple and i am wondering if i can go overboard with downstem size i have about 3 feet of 5/8" brass tubing laying around and if it is not too big i will be using it as the downstem once i get the outer housing turned and varnished and clear coated. my concern is that by using too big of tubing i might have too much airflow and end up with scorched shisha when my friends who dont know any better take a hit like the hose is gonna pay them when they are done taking a hit

I think 5/8 may be a little too big. I made a hose out of 5/8in vinyl tubing and I suck more air than smoke through it, mainly because I clear out my chamber faster.

I dont think itll be too big. If it is, you can always control it with a diffuser. even a smaller mouth piece on a hose can make the difference if there is too much airflow. personally, without going to extreme of course, i dont think you can have too much air flow.

im not a physicist or an expert on airflow but i think the air flow is only as good as its weakest link. whic in most cases is the hose port. the hole on those are usually very small compared to the downstem adapter. I think your stem is fine, but i would play with the diameter of the hose connector to get the perfect airflow for you enjoyment.

my hose port on my KM is not too much smaller than the downtube, the only hookah i have ever owned with a tiny hose port in comparison to the down tube is my MYA but any egyptian i have ever owned has always had a hose port 3-4 times the size of the MYA ones

You say "brass tubing" . You just make damn sure its not copper tubing which is quite unhealthy, builds up in your liver and will not break down until ז"ל

how is copper tubing unhealthy? you use copper pipe in every house for plumbing

yes to much of it in your system could be bad but you need copper just like you need iron, either way i dont see how air passing over it could cause it to magically jump into the air... and copper is part of brass so it should happen in brass as well

and to put the final .50 cal in the head, cut off the head, and burn the corpse of the argument the only thing that will give you issues is heating the metal to above melting point, or using extremely corroded pieces. so the only thing to worry about is zinc on galvy

done, dead, buried, wooden spike in the heard, silver bullet in the heart, etc
