Cheap Mod For Phunnel

Recommended Posts

I was at OSH Hardware store today with my brother. I happened to find some things that looked like would work as a mod for a phunnel bowl. I bought it cause it was only $1.70.

Got home and put it on the medium phunnel and it fits perfectly! I just pulled out the teeth a little more with pliers so it stands better, but it's a cheap way to get a mod for your phunnel bowl without having to do much modifications.

The piece is called a Metal Furniture Cap 1 1/4 inch round spring. I got it at OSH but I'm sure any major hardware store would have it.

I hope stainless steel is fine for heating Hookah.gif

Excuse my ignorance, but what does it do? Just makes sure tobacco won't drop in?

Forces air to go through the tobacco before it can go down the stem. Also allows you to pack less tobacco into the bowl if you want shorter sessions. I personally do not use a mod.

Right, thanks. Any advantages of funnel bowls anyway? We don't have those kind around here and I'm thinking if it's worth getting one from the shores of yore...

It keeps the juices from going down the stem which helps with cleanup. It keeps the tobacco almost in a juice pool so it lasts longer, tastes better, and smokes thicker. Eric originally designed it for Tangiers tobacco but a lot of people (including me)use it for everykind.

just a little history lesson.

The scalli mod was originally a copper pipe end that was slightly modded.

Scalliwag (he's on this forum) made it and let MN have the idea and their glass blowers made it profitable.

excellent find. does the package say what its made of?

The package itself does not. But at the hardware store it was under the stainless steel rack thing. It's shinny like stainless steel and turns that blue-ish color when heated, so I assume it's stainless steel.
