[New York] Interested In Opening Up A Hookah Lounge / Restaurant

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone, I'm new here - I actually literally googled "hookah lounge forum" how opportune!

I'm a 21 year old College drop out, with some fairly stable family members who are always looking to make more money in one way or another.
I've traveled the world, and have been to some pretty fancy hookah lounges. I'm at the point where I'm looking to open up my own.

I've been reading over the laws/regulations to having a "Smoking environment" within NYS, my plans are small - open up a Cafe / small restaurant lounge, with the capabilities to house people to smoke/enjoy shisha.

Any chance that any of you have opened up a similar venture within NYS?
I'm looking for hints/tips/legal information regarding the idea, any input would be a huge amount of help as I'm a new business owner (or soon to be if all works out well).

I appreciate this, and thank you all for having a forum relative to my requests!

Thanks!

We link it all the time, and for good reason, Mush wrote a great little article that answers a lot of basic questions.

Looks like these guys pointed you in the right direction. I'd like to add, however, that I've seen something about new laws in New York that recently went into effect, making the sale of hookah tobacco illegal. Not sure if this is just in NYC, or the whole state itself. For some reason the lounges already established in NYC are safe, though. Not sure how or why. But this is something you might want to look into.

I feel like the hookah lounge thread should be pinned.

I second this motion.

That's a four hour drive from LI... three for me. That would be way too far to go smoke at a lounge.

What part of NY? I've been so interested in doing this for so long. I will say if it's Manhattan/Queens/Brooklyn it's dime a dozen. If it's Long Island there are very few over here. Upstate, even less.

The ones on Long Island are geared towards clubs and not very traditional. The only one that is some-what traditional and posts on this very forum time to time is Mystique Hookah Lounge.

Another problem with Long Island Hookah Lounges MOST of them use Quick Light coals.... and you are paying 10-15 dollars a hookah. But hey if you are not a hookah enthusiast, which most of Long Island isn't then who cares right? But I do, which is why I never go to a lounge on Long Island.

Jeez, the more and more I think about it I'd love to open a super lounge here on LI. Edited by newjacksm
