Hi due to the change in customs in australia, ive thought that mixing my own tobacco would be best.

just to update you on the custom tax chanes, previously if you imported a 250 g packet of shisha, they would tax you on a percantage of the weight as tobacco (15%), now they act asif the entire 250g is pure tobacco, that is why the retail price of a 250g packet has changed from $20 to $100.

so iven thses changes, and the fact that the govt also bought out all the local tobacco farms, i have decided that if i imported pure tobacco and mixed it myself i could help the locals get shisha at a resonable price.

this is a great opening into the market, all i need is the ingredients, and i was willing if any companies/ manufacturers/ or people would be willing to sell me pure tobacco and the rest of the ingredients separate, so all i need to do is mix them. i will be boxing it and putting my own name on it.

can anyone help me, will companies send me the products needed, knowing that i will be putting my own name on it.

Also, if ur gonna be making this into a sorta business make sure you're prepared with equipment and finances and whatnot. Alot of it is gonna be on your own ingenuity like ur ideas and reicpes and whatnot, but you gotta make sure ur ready to take on a big challenge/ responsibility like this

But considering that you'll be a brand of domestically produced shisha that will be lower cost (and hopefully no sacrifice in quality ^^) i dont think you'll have a hard time winning over Australia's native hookah lovers

im in melbourne, so no i didnt get to the stores unfortunatley. i was oing to email you to buy me some and send it over.


The stores over here still haven't changed the prices.

what do you mean by that?


If it is imported and labeled as a tobacco product on the box that it's being shipped in, you will get taxed and dutied up the ass. So make sure it is labeled as a gift or as incense or potpourri or something like that, nothing to indicate it is tobacco to tip off customs. The place shipping it should also use the name of the owner of the exporter as opposed to "_____ Hookah" or "___ Smoke".

Damn, that's rough about the new conditions in Australia. Hopefully there will be some solid guides and recipes made on the internet now on how to make your own shisha, because i have searched google up and down before about the subject and haven't been able to find anything concrete to go with. Sorry about the semi-off-topic post... good luck with your quest for tobacco, wyflavour biggrin.gif

but 200kgs of tobacco lablled as potpurri will look suss, and if they see that it has the wrong label then i get 5 years jail for smugllsing tobacco.

I thought you might be importing on a small scale, but you're looking to go into mass production....yea better to go legit and hope they have mercy on you in the way of duties and taxes. I doubt they will have any sympathy and I doubt demand in Aus. is strong enough for your buyers to purchase tobacco from you at the price you will likely be asking. But still, there is no law against an exporter using the owner's name to export tobacco as opposed to a company name. You cant get thrown in jail for a guy labeling his box with his name. You're just "testing some loopholes". It would be customs' fault if they missed it. And I would test the loopholes before you conduct a wide open operation.

I'd recommend 80% vegetable glycerine and 20% of the lightest molasses you can find. After that flavor the hell out of it. Also my recipe calls for the tobacco to be quite dry before soaking in the sugars and flavors. Oh and rinse rinse rinse. Unrinsed or poorly rinsed tastes like ass, I usually soak and rinse mine around 10 times or so and even then I still get a hefty nic buzz. I'm not sharing the rest of my techniques. Now if I could just find a suitable tobacco for a suitable price I'd start making a buttload of shisha.

edit: Have you thought about trying to make herbal blends? I have my own ideas about this, but you might be able to find something suitable in Australia. Edited by derogatory

Herbal blends would be a good substitute, even though they would only be a substitute. If you get the proper herbs and mix them with lots o molasses/flavorings it could be good to, and ALOT cheaper

thankyou for your tips. i have come to an agreement with a shisha producer in egypt to send me the ingredients seperated for me to mix here. they will also create my own boxes and shisha brand name for me. all i have to do is mix it and package it. will i still have to wash the tobacco as you say above? is this the right way for me to go?
