No Flavor Please *help*

I have a Mya QT witha regular clay bowl...i use Al Fakher Cocktail, Nahkla Fruit Cocktail, Romman Grape & Sweet Start....and when i smoke them none of them have any flavor....i cannot taste the flavor of the tabacco at all. All i get is a bland taste of nothing with a very small hint of coals. i am very sad that i cannot taste the actual flavors and enjoy my hookah. the smoke is thick and white, and ive use Golden Quick Lights & Exotica Coals. Please help a fellow Hookah lover out. ive been to the lounges and their flavor is very distinct and i know what im smoking but with my situation it cood b anything b/c i cannot taste a thing.

Sounds like you're running too hot. Give your hookah a good cleaning and try less coals. Btw, see if you can have a mod move this to the general discussion area.

Try less heat and clean your hookah. Also make sure everything is on tight and that there are no leaks.

I really cant think of anything regarding your problem, then again its 4am.

Check your hose. Disconnect it from the hookah and take a couple drags from it. If the taste is BAD, then that's definitely your problem. And clean the hookah was well. Run some water through the hose..then try another bowl.

if his hose isnt washable that might just add to the problem

Try soaking your hookah stem in the bath with warm/hot water and possibly some cleaning products - alcohol/bicarbonate of soda/vinegar are all faovurited. I had the same problem -the above helped, but the only thing thats really brought out flavours has been a new high quality pipe.

the first thing i would say is check to make sure your lighting the coals all the way. If you leave parts of the bottom un-lit that would give you a really shite taste. By the sounds of it though you just need to clean your hookah very well, possibly try a new hose.

ya i have a Nammor Hose and the standard one that came with the hookah.....when i take a drag out of the hose (disconnected) it tastes kinda gross. what should i use to clean the hose really good...and the hookah as well?

Don't use dish soap to clean your hookah, espcially a cast one like a mya where there are lots of little spots for soap to stay in. You can use Lemon Juice and hot water on the stem as well as your hose. Baking soda/Beer/alcohol are all good cleaners as well, my personal preference for a mya is a little bit of cheap ass vodka. You can get a huge gallon of cheap mccormicks vodka for like $8-$12 which will clean your hookah well for quite awhile.

ok so i cleaned the hookah for a like an hour. hot water and the stem and scrubs like a mutha. lmonjuice aswell. and for the nammor i used lemon juice too. swishing it back and for, vigorous shaking. and i just smoked it and still absolutly no flavor resembling the tobacco. i think it might be the way i pack my bowl. i just get a little handful and sprinkle it into the bowl and makesure not to compress it. i dont compress it at all i just sprinkle it in until the tobacco is at the rim of the bowl. i dont know if that is right but thats what ive read and bben taught but doesnt help the flavor.

please if im doing something wrong help me out. and i appreciate all the help so far.

teach me how to pack a bowl correctly to get flavor.

how old is your tobacco? how do you store it? I've had the same problems with a lot of tobacco that I haven't smoked in days, smokes fine but zero flavor. Also, sometimes I get used to smoking the same flavors all the time, try a new brand new flavor. If your tobacco is brand new then I think the only problem is your taste buds. In this case, try putting like 8 pieces of big red gum into your mouth and chewing them for like 4 hours--I did this once and I couldn't taste anything for like 5 days, but everything tasted so much better after, it was worth it.

when i used to keep my shisha in the fridge, if i packed a bowl withot letting it warm up i noticed my flavor was diminished, i've had a few sessions of romman where i couldn't taste anything, i blame shisha gnomes. everything seems to be going along just fine, but no flavor. if you store it in the refrigerator, stop
if you can smell your shisha when a poof of air wafts up to your face after opening it, you should get good flavor, but when you open your shisha and can't smell anything much, you're not going to taste anything much.
i've found that the best way (for me) to keep my shisha is in those "BALL" mason jars, with the two piece lids. in a cabinet under my pipes. may want to invest in a few.

how exactly do u pack a bowl correctly? just to check if im doing it right. gotta get it rightr for my 4Th of July

i dont use any ice....just cold water (not freezing cold) tap water...but i dont c how that wood affect the flavor.

if anyone reads this please tell me the way u guys pack ur bowls. sprinkle/compact...alot/a litttle ...etc

i get alot of smoke/thickness as u can c from my pic <------ its just the flavor.....y cant i get flavor. im betting its the way i pack my bowl which is just sprinkling the tobacco into the bowl and not compacting it at all until it reaches the rim...help! Edited July 4, 2008 by organdoner

again how old is the tobacco, old tobacco dries up and loses its flavor especially romman, ive never had that stuff last more than a couple months.

ive used the tobacco the day i got it or a couple weeks, but my al falkher cocktail is still extremely juicey and moist after a month. ive smoke that and dont touch my romman because i didnt like the flavor. my nahkla was a couple days before i opened it and smoked it, but still no flavor. packing the bowl maybe?

If you're using ice cold water you could be "shocking" the flavor out. Try cleaning the hookah thuroughly, use a little bit of lemon juice. Try some lukewarm water in the base, pack the bowl a bit more dense.

i think i just need to add a more dense amount of tobacco and not just sprinkle but add blobs to it but mix it so air can get through. i think wen i sprinkle it not enough is added it just seems like alot because of the space in-between each sprinkle which raises it higher to the rim of the bowl (if that makes any sense at all). i just use regular tap water not too cold but cold so that i know that im putting cold water in and not HOT!

i think ill just add blobs of juicy tobacco and just make sure air can get through...and if that doesnt work then i hate my hookah....and will only go to lounges...lol Edited July 4, 2008 by organdoner

When I've helped friends with similar issues I've noticed that one big mistake many people make is to not use enough tobacco. Do back it down, but just slightly. Keep a tiny bit of distance between the foil and tobacco, maybe a sixteenth of an inch. Storing in ziplock bags with nothing else if light is hitting it will age your tobacco as well. I either use the plastic tubs (Al Fakher, Fusion, etc. or the tin Starbuzz, etc.) but never just a plastic bag. For tobacco that comes in plastic bags only like Tangiers, I use cheapie 99 cent store rubbermaid rip-off tubs. If you're still having trouble try a really highly flavored tobacco like Fantasia and see if you get better results.

the packing the bowl a little down but still with airflow kinda worked...i tasted a very little amount of flavor...slim to none...but when i was finished and cleaned up when i took the bowl of there was a puddle of thick red syrup under it. is that the flavor seeping out of what? its just red syrup under the bowl under the ash tray thing....i was smoking alfahker mixed fruit (red). its a very juicy moist shisha kept in the original 250g container with the shisha inside a ziplock inside.???whats going on!! AH!!
