Allia22
Ash getting in the tobacco isn't really a big problem. It happens, but it doesn't really affect anything IMO.For the record, I only had one tub of AW that did much of anything for me. And since I think it's worth repeating, I think those bowls suck total ass, everything I've ever put in one of those has burned. Give me one of those ill-fitting Chinese bowls or a funnel and I can get a good smoke session. That said, if you're hell-bent on using this POS bowl, try putting more in. Smaller amounts of 'baccy will burn MUCH easier than a larger amount. Actually, try it completely touching the foil. If it sucks, then it's just another smoke session failed, but if it works, then you'll have learned how to pack a bowl.

Brownman18
buy a better bowl dude .I usually do the following with Nakhla, i use a clay bowl though a traditional cheap $5 from the store type. break up the shisha and pop it into the bowl in a fluffy fashion, let it overflow a tad since your just learning.Put the foil over it just one layer, and poke holes in it alot of them in a lined fashion both veritcally and horizontallyLight your quick lights and put them in the tray, let them spark a bit and when they are red. Pick it up with the tongs and put two halfs onto the bowl.Should work fineAlso check for the followingYour hookah stem has a cylinder going into the bottom that goes into the base, that you have a grommel between the stem and the base. That you have a grommel between the bowl and the top of the stem, above the tray. !
Skarredmind
Yeah its been said on here a number of times, and I totally understand you not wanting to spend more, but if you're going to enjoy a session it's worth it. I reccommend a phunnel with scalli mod or a superchief for what you're trying to do... The smaller hookahs tend to be a little harder (in my experience) to learn on than a big one, and it kinda sucks that you don't have a buddy near you who can get togther and help you out (If you were near south central PA I'd offer)Check the forum for online discounts, and order a new bowl (and maybe some more tobacco. If you are getting sick make sure that the coal is well lit and turning white with ash BEFORE putting it on the bowl... you might be getting CO poisioning (makes you light headed and sick)Good luck man, keep trying you will get it!! Also if you can get access to a digi cam take pics of the setup and what you are doing and post them!! We all (pretty much) love helping newbs like you, and the pics will help a lot to see exactly what's wrong. Don't give up hope you can get it to smoke well and enjoy it! I promise. Sonthert
Ash won't do anything, but I believe in lots of good sized holes. I use a fork and poke 120 or so holes on the foil. I think any bowl will work OK, unless its made of metal. I would say try a little more tobacco in there, see what that does.
anddy
For the time being I can't buy another bowl. I'm not going to buy another bowl until I buy some shisha and coals. Here's some photos. I didnt light the coal or anything yet but just took some pictures to show how I'm about to do my next "try". anddy
30 minutes in and its doing fine. I added another foil onto that bowl so its double foil. I think this one may be it.
anddy
ok it started to get harsh. took off the foil to get this. its alot blacker than the picture.
symptom CY
I'd say that's a bit too much tobacco... it looks like it would be touching the foil, which in my experience is very bad with Nakhla. The coal setup and holes look fine -- I use 3 Kings halves in the same way. Space them out for less heat, move them close to each other and the center for more heat. Just try using a bit less tobacco?
anddy
oh it was romman.
symptom CY
Hmm... still, I wouldn't let Romman touch the foil either. Actually, the only tobacco I let touch the foil is Tangiers, and even with that, I prefer to leave a tiny bit of space.
guyt
It does look a lot better than what you were describing earlier. It sounded like you got a pretty good session going. Don't worry about it to much. Just change the bowls more often and you'll be fine. you might want to try using different coals if it really bothers you. cafesaden
everything looks pretty goon iin those pics make sure the tobacco is evened out on top all around and i wouldnt poke that many holes... i put 3 rings pretty spaced out and it usually helps get those 1 hr + sessions
anddy
so less holes in the foil?
Dekon
I think i'd keep the holes just like that, just put a little more shisha inside the bowl so that it's pretty close to the brim. Still not sure what's wrong .
camelflage
rotate the coals about 40 degrees, so they aren't covering 3/4 of the bowl. more like hanging out over the edge a little. i think you put just a little too much heat into it that time.
anddy
yeah i turned it alittle so a little is hanging off the sides but then it seems like suck in too much air from the other holes. thinner smoke than cigs.man. someone recommend me a bowl. guyt
have less holes. Much less holes and youll be ok
cafesaden
you can cleary see in your pics that the tobacco on the outside is still uncooked. place holes all around the bowl and more spaced out HOLES ARE FOR AIRFLOW not cooking the tobacco. the tinfoil transfers the heat sufficiently. Gaara
I've tried almost all Naklha flavors and from personal experience, Peach is one of the worst. The only peach I've tried before that was from Layalina and found Naklha Peach at a local retailer so I wanted to give it a try. Smelled so wonderfully peachy but it tasted straight up like soap to me and couldn't get it out of my mouth. I also had to clean my Hookah repeatedly to get the smell/taste of out it before I smoked other flavors.
Rani
QUOTE (anddy @ Aug 29 2007, 04:32 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>yeah i turned it alittle so a little is hanging off the sides but then it seems like suck in too much air from the other holes. thinner smoke than cigs.man. someone recommend me a bowl.I use two bowls. Both from Hookah Company. Small funnels, and large Tangiers heads. Nothing else anymore. For me, the width of the Tangiers head allows for perfect heat management - 1 full and 1 half 3 kings 33mm (or start with one and add the second when the first gets about half way through). Funnels seem to be a bit trickier for me, but not by much. For a funnel I just use a single coal, move it once straight across and then when it's almost dead, another full one to smoke the two sides I didn't smoke before. Either way I always end up with an hour of smoke. And I have yet to burn a bowl in either of them. 'Rani
NonstickRon
I'm pretty inexperienced too (been smokin a week!) but ditch the quicklites if you're as sensitive to harshness as I am. I switched to Stargate Natural coal and its made a world of difference to me.
anddy
yeah i figured it out. This one started to get harsh so I decided to wait a while with the coals off, and then it just went back to normal. Finally a full session, lasted about 1 hour. I think all of those other times I just went crazy and ended the session at the first sign of burnt shisha, where I could have just taken the coals off and waited. Sonthert
I would also spread the tobacco around the edges and leave the air gap in the middle, not around the edges. Good contact makes for good conduction!
