1. I was actually in Thailand the first time I'd ever tried hookah. We got to Bangkok during the day and spent the ENTIRE day traveling to get to this island off the south / eastern coast. It was night by the time we made it to the island, and we ended up taking a tuk-tuk to the other end of the island, and then wandering through a palm tree forest for about an hour in the pitch black trying to find a place to stay. We ran into some -awesome- Aussies who told us that we were about 100 yards from the beach and a whole lot of hotels (which were really just rent-able thatch huts). We went over to the hotel and secured 2 thatch huts, then made our way to the restaurant. None of us had eaten anything but trail mix and beef jerky all day. We got giant piles of seafood for next to no money and ate until we couldn't feel our legs. Afterward, my friend asked if the guys there had hookahs, which they did. I had never seen or heard of a hookah before, and when they set it down on the table I thought it was a (NHT device) and I wasn't going to smoke it, but my friend explained that it was a type of flavored tobacco and a little about its history. It was definitely the perfect end to our day, and somehow bringing that tradition of smoking hookah with my friends back home with me was important. 2. Honestly, this has been my opinion on Tangiers for a while, not because I have smoked an overwhelming amount of flavors, but because of the wide variance in people's opinions on the brand. I don't think any other brand is more split in terms of good/bad reviews. Personally I've tried 4 flavors of OG tangiers and gotten mediocre at best results (and yes I have tried every Tangiers_trick_01 for getting it to smoke "right"). And yet the same flavors have gotten rave reviews from people whose opinions I generally trust. The most likely explanation to this (imo) isn't that some people just have a magic acclimation/packing/coal management touch, but rather that Tangiers is an inconsistent brand.
3. I have owned a mya qt and bambino for about 3 years now and just last week purchased a Gelato. (I do own other brands of hookahs in case you are wondering.) So far I love my gelato. Like you I wanted a nice medium sized hookah. I have my large hookahs and then my two small myas, but wanted something right in between. I think the gelato will turn out to be my favorite hookah. It's a beauty.
4. Couldn't help but look since I live in the same city as OP (Phoenix). Halfway down the page I noticed someone was selling their hookah BAR on craigslist, lol. http://phoenix.craigslist.org/evl/bfs/1653617482.html
5. Just got my Banned Vendor alien bowl! woo!

6. Just got back from vacation to find my alien phunnel here. Looks good so far, can't wait to smoke it! Also, Stuie, making me jealous man, that color on your alien is sick!
7.
QT is small and smokes. You can set it up in the cage it comes in and carry it around while you smoke. great for camping,in the cage it is unbreakable. Ray
I agree with Venger, the Mya QT sounds like the perfect choice for you. QT's were a lot of people's first hookahs, and even though it wasn't my first (or even one of my first) I still own one (and love it). http://www.hookah-shisha.com/p-1726-mya-qt-2-hose-hookah.html They are affordable, durable, quality, and they come in a carrying cage rather than a case which actually keeps everything safer / more firmly situated than the cases in my opinion. I would expect that the diva you posted earlier is of a similar quality, but I can't say for sure because I have never owned one. Your $100 would get you a mya QT, some nice hoses if you want (I use two small red Nammor hoses with my QT: http://www.hookah-shisha.com/p-1574-nammor-hookah-hoses.html), shipping, and some money left over to get some good coals and try out 10 smaller boxes of shisha or pick out a few 250g's of your favorites. I've recommended this exact use of $100 to friends before and they are happy with their purchase.
8. I agree that I would rather support Eric than some random Chinese company, but I sincerely doubt there is a significant difference. Bottom line (imo) is people like brand names.
9. Traded 700ish grams of Tangiers to colto in return for some new fumari sent direct from a vendor. He paid for the Fumari and had it shipped to my address without a hassle, and updated me as he was ordering it, giving me a screenshot of the completed transaction as well as the tracking number. I got my shisha on time and without incident, and I would trade with him again. Thanks colto.
10. Do it john, early smoke breaks are the best. It's friday!

11. I want a Mya Gelato Grande so bad! I'm jealous Stuie. I'm doing a bunch of side work at the moment so I'll be collecting some pretty large chunks of money on top of my normal salary, having a hard time convincing myself I need another hookah (on top of my current 6) when I want some other things like new monitors and a plane ticket to japan
12. Everything but Red Tea has been traded away.
13. I would totally buy this because it's completely fucking ridiculous. Necessary? Not even slightly. Hilariously ridiculous? Yes.
