1. I always buy my coconara from Osimex. They might be fake but they smoke fine - no complaints here.
2. The Goza reminds me a rotator that I have. The gauge of the stem was big and (and thats what makes the draw so effortless) the 'hole' where you put in your hose was just a protruding inlet (basically a hole). Smoking is superb. Really effortless, making you draw more smoke in a single shot. the problem I have with my rotator is that with time (after 5 or 6 years), the threads of the stem start to wear off and you need to continuously add Teflon to make sure everything is tight. Also the welds connecting the piping and the stem are usually not the best and had to be replaced with some JB Weld.
3. Before packing, make sure that : The hookah is clean You added new water is the vase. The hose is clean Now for Al Fakher is an egyptian head: 1) Al fakher is very wet. Make sure that the aluminum does not touch the tobacco (leave it to the rim). After making holes, I would recommend not having juices on the foil. Those juices are full of sugar. And burned sugar will kill the taste and make the smoke harsh. I often make the holes before putting the tobacco in the head (Put the aluminum, make holes, remove aluminum, fluff shisha, put pierced aluminum) 2) Use a multitude of small holes (pin instead of toothpick). Again, the tobacco is wet. Big holes will have bigger charcoal particules falling on the tobacco. 3) Since the tobacco is wet, it might extinguish the charcoal so flip it after the first few minutes. Also, use the stone hedge technique. 2 Flat CCN on a egyptian is a lot of heat. Try your luck with 1 CCN and a windcover.
4. a) always make sure the hookah is clean and the water is changed every time. use a washable hose and stick to one flavor/hose c) In my opinion, 2 charcoals on a MYA head is too much. I would recommend 1 charcoal and possibly a wind cover if needed d) I find it sometimes that if you "inhale" too hard, you tend to burn the head faster. Taking it slow is the way to go!
5. Say, on a side note, where do you get your shisha?
6. I came back from Turkey a couple of weeks ago and met with Mr Ahmet Elmas, the owner of Elmas. I bought a nice nargile off him. Its gorgeous. I must say though that I am not using the huge hose (simply too huge!) and it leaks a little. And let's face it, nothing beats a nice washable hose
7. First, wash the hose thoroughly - it will help remove the plastic taste Second, smoke exclusively the same flavor out of this hose. You'll see, after a couple of times, the taste will be back - with a vengeance!
8.
I saw this old guy that owned a hookah lounge in Egypt on the Sinai Peninsula that had the worst looking teeth I had ever seen. All stained the color of molasses. Although he did set up the best hookah I've ever smoked. Could have been stained from cigarettes too I suppose. Cleanest smoke I've ever had though, wish I knew how he set it up.
Was it Omar, Master of Shisha in Dahab?
9. Clealiness is important - I use a brush on the stem before each use and change water also before each use. I stay away from soap to avoid any residues With time, I realized that deep holes are better then 'surface' holes - Better airflow and consistent burning through the thickness of the tobacco A funnel is the best bowl to smoke 'wet' shisha. Seriously, I have not used any other bowl in ages. Coconara or equivalent natural coal is perfect Stick to washable hoses. If you ever wonder why, just open a non washable and see the cr*p you will find inside
10. Google has introduced a google Patent search. Just type 'hookah' or 'shisha'. You will surprised to see what gets patented (skull hookah is patented!) and find some ingenious new inventions that might hit the market in a couple of years. http://www.google.com/patents?tbs=bks%3A1&tbo=1&q=hookah&btnG=Search+Patents
11. Just got one. Here are some pointers: 1) very light hose 2) smoked with it 4 times. Still good. Will probably last longer then expected 3) Esthetically, not the most beautiful hose on the market. But hey, for 4 dollars, who would complain? 4) Draw is amazing. No complaints Definitively a good hose. I recommend it.
12. Let's just say: There'll be an app for that.
