Eric said that, that causes more nicotine, thus causing a harsher smoke. Also not having enough holes in the bowl. I use a small (SS) bowl, and I just do circles until there is very little room for any more holes. I use a toothpick to poke holes, because I have found small holes give a better smoke. Also if you don't use enough tobacco or enough coals, then you can get a harsh session. If you use too many coals, then you will get a burnt session. It is just a lot of playing around with how you setup everything. Also as time goes on, I have found that my sessions get better. I was asking what is it about Tangiers that can cause harshness other than from too much heat, out of curiosity. Dizzy might have answered my question - nicotine concentration. No water filtering the smoke. Oh my God. He looked like he just got hit by a train. He said his head was spinning. I know when I smoke Tangiers thru water it works my head. But to take a Dry hit. The most I've done with variations on a hookah is pouring a shot of bourbon into the bowl. That made things seem much nicer for the rest of the night. Third session, the stuff was kicking me upside the head the whole time. Harshness for no apparent reason. Oh Tangy, you cruel, cruel mistress.
