as for actual nicotine content, it's suspiciously hard to find a solid number for the amount of nicotine per cigarette... all of the numbers i found though, cite less than 2.3mg per cigarette was the highest nicotine content i could find cited, and the average cigarette is a little less that 1 gram of tobacco, even if it were only .5g, that would still mean it has less than the .5% cited by most shisha companies. is there something wrong with my math, or my sources?

After looking more, I think cigarettes contain much more nicotine than 2.3 mg; however, I believe that when you smoke a cigarette you only intake 1 to 2.3 mg. Still not positive though.

like i said, the whole tobacco issue is sketchy from both angles, and hard to find undiased studies on. which leads me to believe the anti-tobacco folks know it's less harmful than they would like you to think, but still more harmful than the tobacco producers/companies would like you to think. thus we can't get hard numbers out of anyone.

My Plan? smoke & drink moderately with pierodic excess while i'm young(i'm 21), then spend my adult life letting my lungs, heart, liver, and other squishy parts heal the damage of my youth.

On topic: Still not smoking cigarettes again Bubblez? Try to keep it up. I won't speak about addiction, because I don't have the scientific knowledge, but I personally am not really addicted to the hookah, I can live without it.
I also believe it's easier to quit smoking if you smoke hookah, I have three friends who stopped smoking and started smoking hookah on a regular basis. Maybe it's something psychological, like there are many people that quit smoking and need something in their mouth, a toothpick or gum or something.. I don't know.
Point is, I have three friends who quit smoking cigarettes succesfully and all started smoking hookah.

Anyway, good luck with kicking the habit!

Time to link the EPIC study yet again!!!!

http://www.harmreductionjournal.com/content/5/1/19

Hard numbers from an unbias study at last.......

Buried in there is an allusion to a study that found that 90% of light smokers (3 pipes a week) and 50% of moderate smokers (3-6 pipes) are in fact NOT dependent on or addicted to hookah. The more you smoke the worse the numbers get but it looks like personal makeup and chemistry DO affect the possibility of addiction afterall.

(trying sooooooo hard not to do an I told you so dance)
