BadgerBadger
I was reading up on homemade shisha, and it seemed that everyone said it was important to get unflavored toboacco and wash it to get rid of flavor, nicotine, etc. However, I use to smoke a pipe (then I discovered how smooth hookah smoke is) and there were a few kinds of tobacco that I wouldn't mind smoking out of my hookah if I could get them to be smooth. So my question is: Can you add glycerine, honey, or anything to make pipe tobacco smoke out of hookah and not be incredibly harsh? Do I need to wash the tobacco (seems like I'd lose the flavor)? For what it is worth, all the pipe tobaccoes I liked were darker blends that were mild and aromatic. Not really sure if that has an effect on anything.

Not really sure if that has an effect on anything. You are on the right track, and quite well set. For sure. Sometimes I smoke Al-Ajami from Iran. It comes in a dry pack with zero additives. The first time I didn't wash it and was sorry. I experimented on taste for future knowledge so part I washed (rinsed in a plastic bag) once and part twice. The one time wash was stronger in nicotine, but had the same taste as the 2 time wash.Don't let it sit in the water (your pipe tobacco).Rinse immediately, squeeze out around 95% of the water and with your left over clumb, take it apart and put some in your bowl. Now I forgot to mention the asinine part. I left my mixture in a plastic sealed box, in a cabinet. Mold was on the surface after 5 days so I chucked it out. For sure if you use water, and you can use it within 2 days. If you are adding liquid glycerin, add a teaspoon more or less to 25 grams, mix well and let it out uncovered in a box or tin to acclimate more than usual since this is like Virgin Birth. I would leae it out in the room you would smoke 24 hours. Where I live in the Middle-East we have a high import tax on tobacco. Shisha is cheap but I'd love to get some types of Borkum Riff pipe tobacco which were my favourites as a wee lad of 15 back in 1968.
Codename067
Try washing a little, let it dry, mix it with glycerin, and pack it in a bowl. Then try not washing it, and just adding glycerin to it and see what happens.Trial and Error is y our best friend at this point.
