A Question Of The Quality

Recommended Posts

About two summers ago I turned 18 and me and a friend saved up some money and bought our first hookah from the local tobacco shop. All was good for a while, then I started geting these really off tastes so I'd clean the hookah and buy all new coals and tobacco thinking maybe the ones I had where bad? I ended up getting pissed off and buying a better hookah..fixed the problem... for awhile . Then about six months later the same thing happend again. Both of these hookahs where made from brass (which I hate) and had been cast and chrome plated (cause nothing shines like chrome) but, chrome was not my problem ... Casted Brass was my problem. Copper is bad for you yeah, well guess what is made of Copper...BRASS... And just like copper Brass will start to corrorded, causeing a nasty bad taste and maybe some health issues? (not a doctor) but I am a machinist. And the inside of all the cast brass hookahs I'v ever seen have been horrible, there still pitted from the mold (which makes it super hard to clean, beside being ugly) and there is really no way to fix them. I ended up buying a Social Smoke Hookah made from what they call Stainless Steel but it Has none of the problem of the Brass hookah ( It's made of stamped steel so it's lighter than the brass one, it has a smooth bore in the steem so it's easy to clean and does not corrorde ....) But the pieces that the hoses fit into are bent and are Welded on (and a really shoty job at welding and grinding too) So you can't fit ball bearings into it. So I had custom out some new hoses that no longer need the ball bearing or a person putting there finger over their hose (patent pending). Does any one else have a problem with the way their hookahs are made or do I just suck at life?

Mya Saray 18" Pristine Acrylic Hookah was my first and my second was Mya saray but it came in a carrying case and the type was on the sticker I took off. (the thing with the coals came from one of my friends thinking that maybe somthing in the coals was cause the corrosion of the Brass so I switched brands) your right though it did nothing but change the taste.

My only other thought is that maybe both of my hookahs coming from the same store, may have been made around the same time and there was just a problem with a limited number of castings... my luck it would be only 2... Or they came in contact with somthing at the store or in shiping ?

The open brass in Mya's does pick up a smell like any other brass hookah. I always just take them completely apart, remove all the rubber seals and run them through the dishwasher. It does wonders!

I'v got most of my hookah complete but 303 ain't cheap, I don't have my own tools"lathe or mill" so I have to make my hookah at work ... which sucks... if I don't finish what I'am working on it's not like I can leave it set up like any other normal job and finish it the next night. Then it takes about an hour or so of set up time to get it running true in on a lathe every time I take a piece out. and some times I have to do work at work ? go fig but it will befinish soon with pics smile.gif Edited by Unconnected

I don't think its thew brass considering thats what the KMs are made of. Are the hoses you are using the coil ones? You most likely need new hoses. I'd suggest a Nammor/Razan hose 100% washable.

just want to put my thinking out there

your a machinist, you get bad hookah, you get bad hookah again

and your still not making your own or modifying it to be better... WTF?? tongue.gif

but seriously im kind of surprised you didnt really salvage them unless they were uber gone but idk maybe since im stubborn and going to school for metals i would try to do this and fail instead of just buying a new one

hey guys...just a quick question...i have pretty good knowledge about hookah and so on and so forth, but my bro hadnt used his in a while and it seems like the ball bearing has rusted and is actually stuck....ive tried everything to get it out...from bending a metal rod and pushing from underneath to trying to pry it out with a flathead screwdriver...any ideas? or are we done with this hookah (from the ball bearing aspect) and need to get a new one?

Yeah I see your point, but at that time of 2 years ago I was working a fast food job and going to school so i had neither the tools nor the money for such and undertaking... and I tryed mod'n one to fix the bore on the steem but...things went bad... I had the round part of the steem in a 4 jaw chuck casue thats the only way i could get it running true , that ment like 9" of the steem where sticking out, so I gave up on that and tryed it on a mill with better results. But the way the steem is cast and shaped I could not ream the worst part with out taking out half the hookah so I gave up. And started my own.

winter green, better than any "rust buster, pb blaster, etc". my grandfather teaches auto mechanics and he said that they just get that stuff and get parts free much faster
