meepy
Hey guys (and gals),I've decided to buy a hookah and I've been browsing around several online stores and these forums. It seems like a lot of people recommend either the Mya QT or Bambino as a first hookah, but I've also read that the vases are very brittle. Thus, to be honest, I have no idea what to do heh. I saw the "Junior" on a few sites and was wondering if anyone had some input on how it hit. (http://www.hookah-life.com/StoreBox/modern/hcs-000160.htm) I really dont care how "pretty" the hookah is, I just want it to be durable, have two hoses, hit well, and cost ~$50-60. Any input is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
ZenSilk
The first hookah i ever had was a 2 hosed Ivory from Hookah-Shisha.com. I loved it, it was easy to learn with, and that retailer gives you the most freebies to get started. And since you are on these forums, you could learn a TON just by reading through the posts! In terms of your Hookah..if your looking for a shorter hookah, the QT would be good. Replacement vases are inexpensive. The Mini Mya on Hookah-Shisha is quite a good little piece of equipment. My friend has one of those, and it's not bad for it's price. But honestly, what i would have done if i would have known, is read through this site, and learn about hookahs as much as possible, and buy a nice one to start out with, instead of just a cheaper mini. Everyone on here is extremely helpful and very experienced.
meepy
I'd like a larger hookah, but it really is out of my budget. I intend on only smoking a few bowls a week while in college.
ZenSilk
Well then for the best quick smoke, i'd go with the mya QT. If you buy a one hose, you can get an adapter and convert it into a two hase late ron if you want. Its very convenient, easy to travel with, easy to hide, easy to clean, and relatively cheap. And a GREAT smoke. (I've had mine since January, and i still use it regularly. )
meepy
Have you noticed any problem with the base? Oh, and how's the metal cage that comes with it? That's another thing that sort of turned me off about the QT. I figured a padded case would be much better.
ZenSilk
Yeah a padded case would be much better, but the cage it comes with isn't bad.. i don't exactly use it often, the hookah itself is usually out and about. And those base problems, theres a whole topic abotu them and one person (cant remember who exactly) explains it rather nicely... About how they put a Mya Factory somewhere else and the glass quality just tanked. If your worried about that, maybe go with the mini Mya, its got an acrylic plastic base, its about 18" i think. It comes wiht a case, i'm not sure of the quality of that case though.. And it's only 50 bucks. And comes with 55 bucks in free stuff. malakas
Kind of hard for me to get ice into the base, but crushing it isn't too hard.Aside from that, the base is very sturdy and can take a beating. The cage is actually pretty cool. You can set up the entire hookah and put it back into the cage to smoke. I've even seen people set up rigs to hang the cage so they can smoke it that way. ALTHOUGH I don't think that's such a safe idea. QT is a great hookah, especially for a first imo.
ZenSilk
Ohh Yeah! My friend hung his on the ceiling like a birdcage, i thought that was original! But yeah, i have a crushed ice dispenser in my freezer door, so thats how i get it in there.

hookahlife
Hi meepy,If you want a multi-hose hookah the modern Mya's are always a good choice. We would definately recommend the QT or Acrylics. The Acrylics are a little more expensive but they can go to as much as 4 hoses and are more durable. Egyptians are always a good choice, but you wont get the same manufactured-to-perfection look and they are a little harder to learn on for a beginner. Some reputable websites are:www.hookah-life.com (forum discount use coupon code: hookahfrm1)www.hookah-shisha.comwww.socialsmoke.comwww.mnhookah.comRegards,MikeHookah Life

meepy
I was actually planning on ordering from hookah-life anyway; the 15% is really a game breaker on these forums, I guess. I sent them an e-mail asking about how additional hoses worked and got a very quick response (from Mike, actually). But yeah, I think I've decided on the QT. I guess I could just pad the cage with clothes and shove it in my backpack when I'm traveling with it. Thanks to all for the help.
john_smith
Just to play devil's advocate, my mate has one of those 17" junior hookahs and it actually smokes pretty well. Nothing spectacular, but a decent pipe.

Sonthert
Those $20 ones from Hookah Company are good for the money. If they were $30, they'd be a rip off. They have ones that are like $30-$40 that are as good as the Mya, in my opinion. Look around, there are good deals on lots of websites.
frankenstein_666
Yeah, i bought the Mya QT from Hookah-Life and when it arrived the vase had a manufacturer defect and leaked water (NOT HL's fault)...they frequin' sent me a new on 4 days later and i just sent them the bad one!...GOOD service! I plan on Buying the Acrylic one now though as my new vase from H-L shattered ...I do not own an acrylic hookah though yet?...There is just something about plastic and metal?..i dunno...it totally makes sense though because the glass shatters way too easily but I like the weight factor I guess. meepy
Ah, what the heck. Maybe I'll go with a 23" Mya Acrylic. I know it's been recommended by Hookah-life, but does anyone else have any experience with it? (Not doubting ya, just making sure I have all the details down)
frankenstein_666
yeah, i would say go with the Acrylic. it's not that much more $ and I you will be happier..you might break that QT base...there have been many claims here that people have to include myself!.. ZenSilk
I have a 23" mya acrylic. It's wonderful. And the adapters are a good addition.
