Machete sellers hack prices after election boom ends
July 03, 2007 Edition 1

ABUJA: The price of machetes had halved in parts of Nigeria since the general elections ended in April because demand from thugs sponsored by politicians had subsided, state media reported yesterday.

The News Agency of Nigeria surveyed prices in the north-eastern state of Gombe and found that a machete was now selling for 400 naira (R21) compared with 800 naira (R42) before the elections, which were marred by politically-motivated violence.

BTW R21 comes to about USD$3.

Makes you sick to your stomach, doesn't it?

How shitty must your life be if you consider hacking up your fellow countrymen with machetes just to get some corrupt politician elected to be a good way to make a buck? In what backwards parallel universe does that even begin to make sense?

Mark my words... when quality of life is so piss-poor that people are willing to join barbaric political militias like this, that's when fundamentalist religions take hold, and that's when people become willing to strap a bomb to themselves and blow up civilians in the name of "god." Trust me, fundamentalist Islam is already spreading through Africa like wildfire, and it's only going to continue to get worse. Fundamentalists prey on dirt-poor people who have no hope of a better life.

Hold on to your asses folks! The next 20+ years are going to be a bumpy ride. Edited by tingjunkie
