michaela
Hey so I'm fairly new to smoking shisha and I'm going to get myself a hookah instead of always just using my friends. I will most likely just buy one at Smiley's because I live here in Tucson and that's where it's based out of so they sell their hookahs at the lounge but I was also looking at the hookahs on HookahCompany.com and they have 5 different types: Egyptian, Syrian, Bohemian, Chinese and Iranian. I would assume Egyptians are the best but what are the differences and what type would you guys suggest? Any input is appreciated! Thanks alot,Mike Edited June 17, 2007 by michaela
PersianPride
If you observe the Iranian head its for smoking by actually putting the coals directly on the tobacco, which tends to be less user friendly for someone that is new to shisha. Personally I like the Syrian ones, there is only one hose opening so its easy to keep airtight, unlike most egyptians. Also I've never really appreciated the multihose egyptians, there really is no point considering only one person can draw in smoke at a time. ezie
i'll go for Egyptian Hookah anytime. Khalil Mamoon Hafa is my dream hookah but i'll got with any MYA lines too. Egyptian hookah in my opinion have a very well decorated vase and the stem is usually traditioanl looking. Chinesse Hookah is more affordable and is manufatured in large quantity. Some say avoid the chinesse hookah because it lack quality but it's up to you to buy it. Peace have a nice day

Otherwise, your thumb is always over the tip. And there are many single hose Egyptians out there.I'd say go with an Egyptial. More bowls and such widely available. If I remember correctly, an Egyptian's bowl is the female end (bowl is placed on stem) and Syrian bowls are the male end (go into the stem). I could be wrong, and if I am, someone will correct me. Jamal
Bowl - I'd go for the SyriansShisha - Americans, due to there vast amount of unusal flavours.Hookah - Eyptian, due to there different styles.Pipe - Syrian once again, cause most of them don't have that metal bit at the end. Sonthert
Oh, yeah stick up for the Chinese Hookahs...Chinamon I firmly recommend a good Syrian Pipe, followed by any Egyptian pipes. Bohemian only (erroneously) refers to the origin of the glass of the jar. It was made predominantly in Czech Republic, similar quality pieces from Bulgaria or some such place have started hitting wholesaler's shelves. I don't generally like the design aspects of Chinese pipes, although Mya makes some very good pipes. Iranian pipes tend to be wood cased and, well wood isn't as sturdy. MechAnt
Are the chinese ones any good tho? They are machined and what not so their quality is more consistent but are they good? I've heard of a few that are decent but its all about the MYAs and the Khaili.
