Funnel Bowl/scalli Mod?

What are these contraptions I keep hearing about?
I've seen it, at least the funnel bowl. I'm wondering what it's supposed to do differently other than not allow the drippings to drip out of the bowl, and what's a scalli mod?

I'm new to hookahs, so please take mercy on my noobie soul.

the stock answer is, of course, use the search, but I too in my n00bishness had a lot of trouble finding the answer to this...

The mod is a sort of cap that goes over the central orifice. This makes the air and heat go down, through all the shisha, and greatly increases the airflow/smoke.

MNhookah has a glass version, I think there's a Picture now, to give you an idea of what it looks like. My pre-mod experience was a) the smoke goes across/over the shisha and the foil gets sucked over the opening and it can get very hard to pull.

Well to kill the thread in one shot here it goes


The phunnel stops the juices from going down your stem, which means less goop in your stem. By keeping the shisha wet it will last in a longer and more enjoyable smoke.


This the mod, it works wonders. I mean you get like instant smoke with this, and makes it 20'xs better

I'm using a phunnel with no scalli mod right now, and I'm having no problem with it. In my experience, the phunnel bowl makes the smoke more flavorful, because the extremely hot air is not blackening the tobacco as it does in a regular bowl. Still want to try the scalli mod though

If you don't put enough tobacco in, yes the foil will get pulled over the hole and seal it. The Scali mod overcomes this.

Although I applaud Scalliwag for innovating, my design of the phunnel bowl was for another purpose...after I thought about it, the design features made sense. On the other hand, I've never understood people putting a tiny amount of tobacco in a bowl...kind of like drinking a shot of booze out of a soup bowl. Back in the day, NOBODY, packed their bowl any other way than full. Its a new thing. Tangiers smokes best on a nearly or entirely full bowl, so that's why the phunnel bowl worked well, in my opinion, because I tested it with Tangiers Tobacco, not some other brand and not packing the bowl in a more modern way. So it will work better if its used the way I used it, by definition...not to say my way is better than anyone elses.

Well, most of the time, so far, I dont want to spend an hour or more smoking so in the interest of not wasting shisha it would be nice to be able to use less.

I'm very intrigued by this funnel/mod thing and I must say I'm doubly intrigued by your mollasses based product. I'm on the search for a small funnel bowl and matching mod. I'm pretty sensitive to harshness though, so not sure...don't want to waste my money on stuff i'm too much of a pansy to smoke.
