My coals have not arrived in the mail yet, and I was wondering if there was another way to smoke through my hookah, could I use a lighter? Or some alternative heat source? I really hate waiting with all my other stuff here, and I can't go out and buy any.

No, a lighter is not a feasable option.

Other options have been tried with poor effect. There have been other electrical devices tried and they just dont cut it.... I even tried rigging up a device out of a soldering iron... failed miserably.

and...

please DONT consider BBQ coals like "Kingsford"... puts off too much CO.... possibly fatal.

No that really would not work that well. I doubt you could get your tobacco to burn with a lighter the way a pipe or cigarette do.

Don't try anything that might hurt yourself. Being safe is much more important than not having to wait a couple extra days for coals.

Well I assume the general idea behind the coals are to produce a steady constant heat source, Im trying to imagine any other household objects that could do the same.

your just gonna end up inhaling harsh gray smoke. Plus if your patient and wait for your coals you will enjoy the experience a million times more. am i right?

This is true, but there was a major delay in the processing of my order, and the coals wont arrive for about 2 weeks.

Tell me you would wait that long.

He's totally right, 2 weeks to smoke hookah. I once had to wait that long for a new bowl. It was terrible pain.

Personally I've never tried just holding the lighter to the bowl. But wouldn't smoking the shisha with a lighter be exactly like smoking tobacco out of a bong? Besides ruining the taste, I don't see why it is so dangerous. Or maybe I'm missing something here, can someone explain?

There has to be a way to generate heat above the bowl and then inhale to have it be brought down into shisha chamber.

I have NEVER had a lighter explode on me except after throwing it into a fire. I have lit those plastic lighters for several minutes at a time, and unless your holding it upside down the heat dissapates away from the plastic.

There's always a torch. maybe directing a torch at any part of the bowl. Intense heat without residue. It will probably burn the shisha much quicker though.

How is it that you can't obtain coals?

Well there are some coming soon, and I cannot get any today, being ill, not leaving the house, tomorrow, being a sunday, the only place that sells them in my area will be closed. So that leaves monday, as the first available time to buy them, and its a 45 minute drive.

No actually I wasn't joking. It really can happen.Trust me when I say if you really want to leave a lighter lit for long periods of time purchase a Zippo or at least a bic and stay away from the ones that are 4 for a dollar. It didn't hurt me(I was holding it at arms length and above my head) but it really can happen.
