New Custom Hookah

colto

Recommended Posts

Just gone done building this beauty. It's my first real attempt at a custom hookah. Parts are all food grade stainless steel (#304), rubber, or glass. I'm going to acid-etch some designs into the side soon and get a bowl that matches. Also working on making my own glass bowl. Will keep ya updated.

And then afterward I started on this 5 inch mini. I have since put a port on it but don't have pics yet.

Very Nice.

Are you just putting a grommet over the top of the Downstem?
Nope I am finding rubber stoppers that fit the bottle, drilling out a hole slightly smaller than the outer diameter of my downstem (so it's a snug fit), and then bonding it to the stem so that it's permanent. All the glass holes were tapped with a diamond hole saw. Same for the tray (which I also made). The mini was a just for fun setup that I made with a $2 glass container I saw at Michael's and some extra downstem I had cut. I recently bonded a brass nipple to it and am building a lightweight hose and glass base for it. Will probably engrave it and give it to one of my female friends.

Kudos!

Both hookahs are very nice! I love the blue base on the first one. One of these days, I'll make my very first custom hookah for all to see.

nice looking custom hookah...a job well done

how much did ur stainless steel cost you and whered u get it from if you dont mind me asking
I got mine from Speedy Metals. However they charge $12 minimum to ship anything (even an ounce of metal) so I bought three 12", two 4", and one 18" section. I will be building these into more hookahs and selling them. If enough people were interested I would even setup a group buy and cut/polish the tubes for you guys.

[b]Finally got some footage and explained my building process. There are 4 videos:

[b]Youtube is still processing them but they should be done transcoding and viewable in all their HD glory soon. Here is the image I referenced in the upcoming projects video. Also, before anyone asks, no you can't buy the Megan Fox painting that is on my wall anywhere. I digitally painted it from a movie still, built a frame, made a giclee print on canvas, and stretched the painting to fit the frame. I would love to hear any comments/ideas you guys have. I would especially like to hear what you think about the issue I am having with my Tangiers Watermelon on the last video. Cheers.

Also, the thing I didn't mention in the video is that the whole thing will be LED lit so all of the engravings and such will glow. This is the stuff I will be using for the 'wires' coming out of the bottom that will form the stand: http://img.alibaba.com/photo/11638469/FMC_Flexible_Metal_Conduit_UL_1_Standard.jpg

Maybe I missed but what type of Epoxy are you using on the hose port and purge valve?
Bought it at Home Depot. Dishwasher safe and bonds metal to glass.

I like the hookah head idea, my mom has one of those laying around (the head, not a hookah head lol).

If it were me making it, I would put the bowl at the back of the head (think matrix jack) with a pipe bender it shouldnt be too difficult.

I personally dont think I like the smoke port around the mouth, just seems like a terrible spot IMO.

Add some leds to the base for added awesome-ness.

Great work so far man. How slow do you cut glass when you use a dremel?

That's actually not a bad idea. I was thinking about rekindling this project in a week or two. We shall see. I don't cut the glass with a dremel as glass pieces at that speed will lodge into pores and give you silicosis. Also at that speed if the bit started binding on the glass or bouncing around it could shatter the whole thing. I use a cheap power drill at medium speed and go pretty slowly. Takes around 2 minutes for 1/8" I would guess.
