I noticed I could make a base to sit my hookah on very easy. I don't like to sit my vase on the carpet because the cush in the carpet makes it unstable.The base on the Lazy Susan has a small diameter make it unstable as well. But looking at it I had the idea of making the top of the Lazy Susan the base, and the base the top. To buy the materials to make this would be more than $10 so I decided to get one and knock it out. The first two pics are what it looks like before any mods. The third pic is flipped over. Note the access hole to get to the screws. With a 1/16" or smaller drillbit and making sure you are drilling STRAIGHT AND LEVEL drill straight though the holes where the screws came out. If you are crooked then the holes on the rotating piece. You can see in pic five where I highlighted the holes coming through the top. You screw the base to that side. So you are just switching sides. Before you do that you need to check and see how much "wobble" the rotator piece has. In pic seven where the tip of the screwdriver is at you can lightly tap that down to snug it up. Be careful and test often as you tap it to make sure you do not get it tight when you turn it. Scalliwag Posted September 11, 2006 Author Share Posted September 11, 2006 If you are like me and the stain color is not want you want, lightly sand with fine sandpaper of fine steel wool and stain to taste. Not the size of the hole on the rotator hardware. You can drill that out up to the size of that hole and mount a light in the base piece depending on how you decide to attach the vase to the base.If you have a fairly stable base you can just sit it on there. You could make a tasteful harness that locks it to the base. That way if you want to put LED's in the base they can still shine through the bottom of the vase.I would attached the hook side to the vase because the fuzzy side won't care to much for being washed.I thought about making my own LED cluster but I remembered where I can get something mostly ready to go for $5. So expect that project before the week is out. I am not real sure how well light will shine through my vase. But I am putting LED's into this regardless for the fun of it. Since the bottom is not made to be visible there may be some out there with non-wood or a less than attractive base. For the most part when the vase is on it you cannot see it but.... I am picky.Post pics of how you guys turn out. Ms. Scalli is supposed to pick me up the LED doobydabby today so I should get to add that tonite. I will give you guys the parts list on that once I am happy with it and make sure it goes smooth. Otherwise I have to design a circuit I like and do some math and probably spend $20.So I hope the $5 method works. I could get real stupid with it and put a momentary on roller switch on a riser so that if the vase is on it would light up.This will be battery powered but I will wire in a AC adapter recepticle so I can save battery life when it is convenient. Feed me brownies and I love you longtime!!! Added more pics up there. I still have to get a battery case to mount to make it cordless. This is an under $20 project once all the parts are in. I am supposed to take my stem to Giza and he is gonna fix me up with a better vase for this setup for $15. Then I can shelve the Dubai one and not worry about dick'n up the paint and all.
