Crap in the base!?

Recommended Posts

So I go to clean the hookah out yesterday before using it, as always, and out of the blue there appears to be some sort of junk in the base! It didn't look like mold, but I don't know what it was. I have no idea how it got there either. Anyway, I filled and emptied (repeat) with hot water and got almost all of it out. However, there's what appears to be a few articles stuck to the side higher up. Because of the narrow opening and wide base, I cannot get to these spots with a brush or anything. Anyone have any ideas on how to get this crap out? I tried filling it with vinegar and letting that sit for several hours.

Bleach.

But I cannot believe you can't find hookah brushes that will sort this out ?

There happens to be bleach in the kitchen...the question is, how do I remove the bleach taint afterwards? Is there a good way?

o_o; I'm still curious as to what got left behind in the base that can't come out. Do you use alot of juices, sodas, etc in your vase?

Same here! The only time I've ever put anything other than water and ice in the base was months and months ago I put some wine in there. But I can't imagine it being from that since it was eons ago.

Both juice, coal dust/ash, and small particles of tobacco could be going through the stem into the base. Nothing to be alarmed about, all of it sinks to the bottom of the water, keeping you from inhaling it biggrin.gif

After filling it up with paper towels and then rotating them to wipe, I've got it about. There's a few places that appear like smudges on the inside that's all. I feel fairly comfortable with it. The only extra thing I can think of is what Johnny suggested, and bleach it, but I'm sooo afraid to put anything toxic in there. Is there a good way to *safely* do that?
