In the book Tragedy and Hope by former Harvard professor and consultant to the Secretary of Defense Carol Quigley, he explains how the two-party system is a means for elite of the elite who own and operate this country to have utter control of what happens politically in the US. While the general public feels like they contribute and participate in the workings of the country by voting. The government did a lot to suppress and abridge the book after it came out.
