Peanut Posted January 5, 2006 Share Posted January 5, 2006 so i was doin a bit of searching on this forum but didn't find much info about using alcohol in the base to filter the smoke. yeah, i know it's not traditional and it's frowned upon to smoke hookah and use alcohol together, but i like to try new things.apparently red wine is the most commonly used? i was reading about a guy who put vodka/rum/other hard liqour and actually got drunk just from smoking through it, is this actually possible?have you tried any alcohol/ma'assell combinations that were really good? terrible?so far the most experimental thing i've done with my hookah was using cranberry juice in the base, but i didn't notice a bit of difference Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

It didn't do much in terms of feeling drunk or anything but it added a nice taste that was different. I like to put gatorade in the base. That is really nice.. Alcohol can be inhaled if done right , and breathing stuff in that bubbled through alcohol is one way to do that. Some machines are becoming popular because they vaporize alcohol, and let you do a shot or so in one breath. It goes directly into the blood stream in the lungs, and bypasses the liver/stomach/etc so you get your buzz on quicker. These are quickly becoming illegal. Red wine would be a good thing to use, since its pretty sweet. I imagine that other sweet alcohols, such as amarettos, 99 apples, blue curaco, coffee liquer, etc would work well. If you're determined to use hard alch. , id reccomend a little bit of rum mixed with the water. Maybe a few shots of Captain Morgans Spiced Rum. Too much would be really harsh, wouldnt filter smoke much, and would be a waste of perfectly drinkable spirits. Some people enjoy milk. I've pondered what itd be like smoking a vanilla maasell through a Mudslide (rum, milk/cream, coffee liquer, chocolate liquer) But overall, if you wanna get tipsy with the hookah, i suggest a nice mixed drink to sip while smoking. Maybe its just me not being an alcoholic, but I really don't like the taste of alcohol being used. We tried smoking grape/vanilla/caramel ma'assel all mixed togeather with wine in the base...Eeww..too strong. Poured out half and filled back up with water...Still too strong. Diluted it halfway again and it was still not enjoyable.. We said f**k it and just filled it back up with water. Try using other liquids in the base instead of alcohol, like different flavored sodas, orange juice, any flavor juice really that sounds good with your ma'assel of choice. Milk is tough though. [LB] Posted January 5, 2006 Share Posted January 5, 2006 tangiers, i didnt know that and i willl use more apple juice- does grape juice count? as far as alcohol i hear souzo is the best to put in the vase (maybe they were sarcastic?) but i think its a waste of alcohol. And if you wanna get your buzz quicker just throw your drink in the microwave, it goes straight to your brain to kil your brain cells! if i were you id just use juices, they work the best , or a little bit of milk. I found carbonated drinks mess up cause the co2 bubbles get in the way, so if your gonna use a soda, leave it open in the fridge for 2days or something than go ahead and throw it in the vase Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
jmexx Posted January 5, 2006 Share Posted January 5, 2006 Some people may frown apon me for it but everyonce in awhile I'll enjoy some creme de menthe liquor in the hookah base. Why? Mainly because the minty taste in the smoke that it gives us, but more importantly the warm smoke. yashman19 Posted January 6, 2006 Share Posted January 6, 2006 When I used pepsi in the base with cola flavor, the co2 actually made it sort of fun to smoke. You can actually get that slight burning feeling from normally drinking a fresh soda, that feeling in your throat, but in smoke form. The carbonation doesn't last long, but quite refreshing. I like using fruit juices in the base that correspond with the flavor I'm smoking at the time. It can be pretty sweet, but really enhances the flavor. Sonthert Posted January 6, 2006 Share Posted January 6, 2006 The problem with using (and subsequently inhaling) soda is that carbon dioxide will put you nighty-nighty. Use decarbonated drinks, preferably. Very important!!!!!!!! All soda machines are required to have backflow preventers so that carbonated water doesn't back up into copper pipes. Carbonated liquids in contact with copper creates a serious toxic hazard. I can't say the poison will travel up the hose, from the water, but why chance it...decarbonate all bevrages before adding to hookah jar....thank you. It added a nice slight coffee taste that went well with the Romman coconut I was smoking. I don't think I would do it again. But some Sambuca would be nice with some double apple flavor.
