Tangiers Troubleshooting - Not The Same Old Problem

Recommended Posts

I am hoping all you Tangiers guys can give me some help here. I just got my tangiers, and I acclimated it for ~12-14 hours overnight on a piece of aluminum foil.

Instead of the typical thin harsh smoke problems or overheat problems, I have something that I consider a 'new' issue.

Flavor: Tangiers F-Line Orange Soda
Setup: Mya Acrylic 26"
Bowl: Small phunnel and mod bowl. Using 3 pieces of 1/2 a golden QL.
Packed tight per the n00b packing thread. Packed fairly thick and over the rim. Pushed down lightly to have a small indent in the foil then restretched so it was flat.

Issue: Fair smoke, not great, but not bad. Taste is fair, not great, but not bad either.

I have just this mediocre 'blah' of a smoke. I'm not having the typical crap where I'm ruining bowls or hacking up lungs. I just am not getting the "OMG TANG IS TEH SEX!?!?!?!" out of it, that I know is hiding in there somewhere.

Any ideas where to start the troubleshooting??

Did you poke holes all the way to the bottom? How big were your holes? I personally think the massive pencil sized ones are overkill, but pin ones are too small as well. Go for toothpick sized. Also, take out the mod, tends to complicate things.

I did use full toothpick sized holes across both the phunnel and mod bowl.

And by mod bowl, I meant the 'standard' Modern non-mya bowl....I do not have a scalli.

When I used the modern bowl, I started by poking from the bottom of the bowl, poking up through the 5 holes to ensure a good path, then finished out about 15 or so toothpick holes. Less # of holes, but bigger holes.

I spread it out pretty good and stirred after about 2 hours, then went to sleep. Stirred it again when I woke up to make sure I could get as much juices back into the tobacco before putting it back in the bowl.

I'm using one of those clear round plastic containers that you store sugar or flour in and stirring with my fork or with my hole puncher that's on my tongs before I pack a bowl.

Yeah i had a similar type issue in my last order -

250g Horchata
250g Horchata Lucid

Lucid smelled amazing after 4-6 hours acclimating. Regular still doesn't smell good after several days and trying about everything. For me, Tangiers has been completely hit or miss. But when it's a hit...its worth the gamble.
