  1. I was in some biker-ish bar called the Iron Horse a few months back and there was this guy named John Valby. I'd never heard of him, but he was sloshed playing piano and singing some rather nasty, but certainly all-American drinking songs that everyone there knew. Anyone know about this guy and whether his stuff is pouplar enough to consider "American Drinking Songs"?
  2. I was pretty impressed with the one where ms. garrison goes back to mr. garrison "children! have you seen my penis? If you do, try and catch it with some cheese!" Laughed till it hurt.
  3. It couldn't have been that bad if the peasantry is willing to protest alongside the monks to gain autonomy.
  4. We've seen with the protests in San Francisco during the running of the Olympic torch that the motivation for public outcry is still present within US citizens. (Granted, San Francisco just loves a good ol' hoot-n-holler in the streets. They basically perfected the protest in America.) Anyway, the fervor and passion needed for revolution is there, it's just not focused on internal issues. That's the problem we face as members of a global society. Information from all over the planet is readily available, thus people tend to get excited about global problems (human rights, genocide, starvation, pandemic disease) while overlooking dangers at their doorstep. This is why it's important to let people know how change in the US would be an integral part in a more holistic approach at fixing things globally, people would be in the streets tomorrow. (You can bet your ass I'd be one of them) Great topic, wonderful discussion. This is why I love this forum!
  5. QUOTE ps: Shakes -1 for "Paris, je t'aime", good concept gone bad imo. granted a few of the shorts were less than perfect, (hell, one is downright terrible), Paris Je T'aime is a very interesting, entertaining and watchable movie. There's something in it for everyone (It's a collections of like 18 shorts). Anyway, I almost forgot: What Dreams May come The World According to Garp (every bit as good as the novel) Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil (pretty good adaptation, had no idea Clint Eastwood could direct)
  6. Trainspotting Snatch The Life Aquatic The Darjeeling Limited Paris, Je T'aime Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels Requiem for a Dream The Big Lebowski (Big ups on this one) Friends of God (Andrea Pelosi's documentary about whacko evangelicals) Office Space This Is Spinal Tap The Triplets of Belleville Natural Born Killers Oh, Brother, WHere Art Thou? Bottle Rocket The Royal Tenenbaums Rushmore Everything is Illuminated eh, that'll keep you busy for a while
  7. Along the same lines as Bam margera: Dane Cook and his cult following of people who appreciate unfunny pretty-boy humor. He's not funny, he just has a bunch of energy, like a giant, hairy kid who really needs attention because mommy's too busy banging the neighbor and daddy's an alcoholic. The pleasure felt from watching him is the same pleasure experienced when one sees the monkeys at the zoo fling poo or participate in mass brawls/orgies.
  8. DARVISH!!! It's a persian tea house that offers a really pleasant hookah experience. You get to lay down on an elevated platform with persian rugs and pillows. the service is great, the hookahs are impressive and the food is perfectly portioned, definitely give it a shot.
  9. The Phelps family of Topeka, Kansas People who say "ironical" People who use the word "random" as a synonym for "fun and exciting" (OMG, that was so random! You're so random! Oh, sorry for being so random!)
  10. I've been following the civil unrest in Tibet in response to Chinese encroachment. Though the area has been a source of conflict since '59, thing have escalated with the approach of the Olympic games in China. Being a communist country, it is expected of China to censor news of the events from the rest of the world, but I stumbled upon an article that suggests much, much worse. http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2008/apr/02/china.tibet Does China genuinely believe that the rest of the world will buy into such absurd allegations against the Tibetan people and the Dalai Lama? edit: can a mod please put the "h" in my thread title? it would be much appreciated
  11. So I just received in the mail some great news: A full tuition scholarship to the University of Alabama! Finally, I can transfer out of this shit college i'm at and start doing something worthwhile for my major! Any forum members in or around Alabama during the month of July are invited to help me celebrate in my newly rented house in Tuscaloosa! (details to be posted after I move in)
  12. just some cheap no-name from a local shop
  13. does "washable mean i can soak them in lemon juice and water for a while or can they only be cleaned by quick wash-and-dry methods?
  14. I figured there are some devious minds on this forum that could help me and a house mate settle (and by settle I mean exacerbate) a situation with myself and some friends on campus. Last week I thought it'd be funny to butter the floor outside two of my buddies' dorm door (expect video footage soon). In retaliation, they drew giant cocks on my car with car chalk and covered my house mate's motorcylce with shaving cream (a little much, I think). So now, we're devising a list of pranks to pull on them and keep them on their toes for the rest of the semester. Any suggestions as to any tricks that are feasable and (more or less) harmless would be greatly appreciated.
