Mid Atlantic Meetup - Harper's Ferry, Wv - Sept 19th/20th/21st

Recommended Posts

So I got talking with some of the DC meetup guys, and we decided a bunch of us want to meet up for a campout weekend out in Harper's Ferry, WV. There's a bunch to do out there including Charleston racetrack (horses) and slot casino. Also - tons of cool civil war battle stuff.

There's also a big meeting of rivers to go tubing, rafting, fishing, etc. Many people carry beer on tubes out to these rock islands and sit and drink and be merry.

So, who's in???

Right now there are 4 of us planned - I'd like to see more. You can have up to 2 tents per site, and each site is $35/night...

So if you're willing to share a tent, you only gotta come up with likely 1/4th of that - which makes for a fairly cheep weekend minus the gas prices.

Come on East Coasters!!!

Why does it have to be 7+ hours .. DFJSL:KFJ!!!!!! Those dates would be perfect to! My school starts up the 24th!! How about we move the location to the west by about.. 3 hours?

Lead: aside from gas, it's only your share of $35 a night that is possibly split 4 ways

Plus beer and food and whatever other misc expenses...but $35 split 4 ways shouldn't be too awful bad. The gas is probably the hard part, but maybe y'all DCers can carpool or something.

As for the rest of us, we should list what gear we have/have access to so we know how many tents we have available. I have a small tent, but I'm bringing along my roommate, so that max's out our space.

We do have 2 coolers for beer and food however, and hookahs...

On a side note: Firewood is expensive to buy out there, so if anyone has access to it cheap/free and has a vehicle capable of hauling just enough for the weekend - that's a major plus!!!!!

So I called down there to get an exact quote. It would be $98 per campsite for the weekend. 2 tents per site. Up to 6 people per site however you split them up in the tents.

I did ask and they have 3 sites together out in the fringe, kinda out of the way with no/less kids screaming and strange looks for having 10 hookahs sitting around. smile.gif

So, figure the assumption that at 4 people per site, it's only $25 for the weekend plus gas, food, and any other entertainment (Charlestown Races and Slots, tubing, whatever).

Let's get a good list going by this weekend so that we can call up and make full on reservations to ensure that we get sites together out on the outside row where it's peaceful.

I'll try and edit this as we have it. Please follow this post with what site you're gonna be in and who you're going to be bunking with - if anyone.
If we need a 4th site, we can probably get it, but it may not be right next to the others.

but that's 3 days of not working...and 8 hours each day, 9 bucks an hour, that's quite a chunk of change i'm missing.

True dat man. I keep forgetting other people work different hours and not all of us have 9-5 jobs.

If you can make it out for a day/evening - it'd still be fun to have you.

How far is it from home? Maybe you just have to get up at 6 and drive back down to work and come up again later?

I dunno, just offering suggestions, but I understand the need to work and have money. smile.gif

well, i'm in richmond, so it'd be a good 3 hour drive either way, unless i stay a night at my parents in fairfax county, then it's only 45 minutes or an hour.

i have to see what my work situation is like before i can say definitely either way, but it'd be fun as shit to hang out with everyone up there...

Well, let us know when you can. As we fill spaces I'll get us some reserved spots, I'm sure there will be some place for you to crash out if oyu do drive up. if not, no biggie.

If possible, lets get this thing sewn up by this weekend/early next week and we can start calling and reserving our sites.

I've got 2 of my non-hookah friends in 'tentative' mode, pending some scheduling issues.

Oh, and *bump* smile.gif
