MR Bubble
My fellow hookah dudes and dudettes, Last week I received a PM request by a DR Thomas Eissenberg, requesting permission to post a survey on our forum. Dr Eissenberg is Associate Professor at Virginia Commonwealth University, and a tobacco researcher who is hoping to gather more information about us nargile users for his studies. He has contributed to many reports on tobacco usage over the years including reports to the World Health Organization (WHO) on water pipe usage. He is also Co-founder of the Syrian Center for Tobacco Studies and actively engages in studies in that region. My first reaction was anything but positive, but after DR Eissenberg patiently explained, with much better detail his intentions of this report, I think it's a great idea. Without giving away too much info at this time, I believe DR Eissenberg is approaching the tobacco use issue from a unique angle: He doesn't hate us. That's always good news. Seriously, he appears to be conducting his research in a truly revolutionary manner, without the intent of stepping on anyone's toes. If I may, I'd like to quote one of his brief statements from our correspondence: "I can tell you that I have no interest in banning anything -- bans didn't work for alcohol, they don't work for illicit drugs, and they won't work for tobacco. So, as far as bans go, you needn't worry about me." I am creating this space for DR Eissenberg's survey. I really hope all of you will take the time to participate in it. This is not mandatory, and if you feel uncomfortable, you may cancel out at any time. But, if you do decide to complete the survey, I only ask that you take it seriously and be truthful with all answers. Nobody will know your name, or where you come from. I took the "beta" version of the survey and found it to be quite painless. [b]Please do not respond to this post here. I want to keep this area clean and without confusion for those who wish to participate. I'll create another thread below this for your comments and concerns. Please, once again, I urge as much participation as possible. I also ask for serious, truthful answers. So, without any more delay, I'll give this over to the Doc. Eissenberg
Thanks MR Bubble! And I'd like to thank each of you at hookahforum.com for considering responding to this survey. As MR. Bubble noted. participation in this survey is completely voluntary. Because the survey is completely anonymous, I see no risks to you for participating in it; any benefits are not to you individually but rather tho society at large as we try to understand more about smoking tobacco using a waterpipe. You may refuse to participate in this research project and, should you decide to participate, you may stop your participation at any time without penalty of any sort. All that having been said, if you'd like to participate, I'd urge you to answer each question honestly and to only take the survey once. Thanks again, to all of you, Tom Eissenberg
