Do You Remember Your First Hookah Experience?

It was on my 16th birthday..and it was at a local hookah lounge called Cafe Noir! I had 2 hookahs to myself as friends of mine just treated me with em..I loved it!..smoked smoked and continued smoking for over 4 hours but unfortunately, after standing up and walking out the shop, I puked up!

..still didnt put me off shisha tho

Spring 2007...sophomore in college. A future fraternity brother of mine (I was a pledge at the time) explained the concept to me and I was instantly intrigued, despite my loathing for cigarettes and most tobacco products. We went to the local hookah shop. He bought a cheap China hookah, some 3K, and I can't remember what kind of shisha. We had the concept down pat but didn't apply it too well: no foil and not enough water in the vase. First 2 draws were alright but went severely down hill from there. I was determined though!! So a few weeks later, I bought my own China hookah (fail)...some HH shisha (another fail)...and a couple rolls of 3K (the only smart part haha). I released I needed foil and to actually submerge the downstem. I got better at it, but it would still be a while before I got my packing technique down pat...

It's now been over 2 years, and I'm a proud owner of a beastly MZ, small phunnel, Nammor hose, and wide range of shisha from traditional (Nakhla) to American (Starbuzz).


As I write this, I still have 2 hours until I can get back to my apartment and pack another bowl...antsy as hell!!

I encountered Hookah when I was looking at my College.. my Grandmother almost wanted me to pick another school cause she thought they were smoking that which must not be named... and it was cleared up by a Teacher who explained it...Simply funny

But my second day living on campus I was with a group of friends and were chatting about cigars when one of my other friends went "Hey we should go smoke Hookah" and I of course was like "Whats that?" and we went to Cafe Istanbul and had Double Apple...and man oh man I think That will be viewed as my Favorite smoke of all time ^.^

Which would make my smoking Venture almost two years now...and I own two hookahs and a good amount of shisha's for me....and I've been glad they introduced me it's been fun ^.^

Thought this would be an interesting topic: Do you remember your first experience with hookah?

I was at a lounge with friends. Some reason everyone could get big clouds and I could barely get any smoke. Then I spent 30 minutes in a fast food bathroom because I felt like puking. If at first you don't succeed.... ha

I was at a lounge in North Richland Hills , Texas. I was a very straight edge kid. Never touched ANYTHING.. they talked me into trying hookah and now I'm hooked.

i think i was about 15 at the time and my brother had smoked a few times at parties, he eventually bought a cheep green pumpkin and i believe we smoked starbuzz watermelon with some golden quicklights outside.

I first smoked hookah about 3 years ago when I went up to Raleigh to celebrate my 21st with some friends. (Indian Friends ) I've always hated cigs and generally any tobacco products. But they explained exactly what a hookah was and told me to try it and if I didn't like it, no biggie. So I did. We smoke Nakhla Rose/mint and it tasted heavenly and the buzz was awesome (especially intoxicated lol)

About 4 months later I decided I wanted to strike out on my own and picked up a $40 "kit" at the local hookah bar. Ended up getting a Mya (which I had no clue what it was at the time) and some Nakhla. Learned about the other brands and started buying Romman and Starbuzz (yes lol i know). After a med. no name egyptian I ended up with a sweet 32" KM (again no clue what it was) for about $55 from a local shop. Then about a year and a half ago I was browsing the forums saw pics of identifying marks of a KM hookah and realized that my hookah was one of the most awesome ever. It's still my baby to this day.

My first experience was about 4 years ago. I was 16. I went to a BBQ at my buddy's house in the early summer and after all the grilling and eating and as the crowd started to die down, it was me, him and his siblings and my (now) brother in law and his siblings. He told us he "made an investment" and brought it out.

None of us had any hookah experience so we all shared in the task of putting this beautiful Mya Saray pipe together and setting up. We ended up smoking an entire 250g box of AF Sweet Melon that night.

Went out within the week and procured my own hookah and spent the rest of that summer smoking and bonding with all those people over our new hobby.

i came to college and my friend (who is now my best friend and roommate) had a hookah. I had never smoked one before but i was eager to try. 1 year later and im the hookah master at my school. Unfortunately the first time i smoked it was hookah-hookah blackberry lol.

how could i forget....a buncha my friends and i decided to go to the college hookah bar after we had been drinking. we smoked a lot....and it didn't mix well in my friend's stomach. he puked in his water glass (that we were sharing). i was too gone to realize he puked until I drank his puke from the water cup. we got kicked out of the bar. gross.

Basically It all started when one of my friends called me and told me that he had been smoking hookah. I had no clue what hookah was at the time and was not one that wanted to smoke anything besides cigars (dident like the whole smoke in your lungs idea). Anyway, I ended up driving up to visit him 3 hours away for the weekend and we smoked out of a 2 hose no name hookah that he bought a day after trying hookah for the first time. We were smoking some pharaohs pamagranet and I thought it was great!

Next time I went up there I found out that he built his own hookah. It was amazing! The draw was so much better and you could get so much more smoke out of it. By that time I joined up on the forums and learned a lot more about hookahs; how to pack the bowls right, heat management, ect. Whenever I went up to visit I was always the one picked to maintain the hookah.

Now I moved up here and reciently purchased a km 3 hose hookah. Order Tangiers regulary and am still the one that maintains the hookah sessions. Although I have taught my friends a ton about hookahs that they never knew about. One of the main things was that pharaoh's sucked and that we needed to buy a tang phunnel

Yeah I remember it like it was yesterday. I was 15 and over at my friends house, after his mom went to sleep he busted out the hookah, showed me the flavor ( nakhla double apple) and lit some coals. I had seen hookah before but this was the first time I smoked it, we sat in the balcony and smoke double apple for about an hour after which I was so lightheaded I thought I was floating.

Some of my friends told me about hookah and we went to a lounge in Memphis... I bought my own a week later off eBay (before I knew any better, it was an Inhale piece of junk). Luckily it leaked air after the second use and the seller gladly refunded my money. I then bought a Mya QT after becoming a member here and getting schooled, sold it and bought an AF Small Solid, then sold that and bought a KM OG Trimetal. Then I sold the KM thinking I was quitting, but ended up coming back to the dark side, lol. Got another Mya QT and been going strong ever since.

My hookah experience actually started when I dug myself into a wikihole (as in you look at one thing on wikipedia, then you just keep clicking links in articles and reading) and somehow I came across the article for hookah. I read and was like, this is interesting! So a few weeks later, somehow it came up and it was an impulse buy. I went over to a site, and picked up a beginner pack for $100. A few days later I got a phone call while I was at work at 7-Eleven, from my mom, frantic. "MICHAEL WHAT IS THIS BOX THAT CAME IN THE MAIL IT HAS ALL THIS ARABIC WRITING ON IT. WHAT THE FUCK DID YOU BUY?!" (the writing was actually hebrew, it came from a location in Tel Aviv.) I told her, it was a hookah, and she was all "What the hell is that". Explained it, and she was all "IT'S A NHT PIPE" I tried to explain again, but to no avail. I got home, and opened it up. Came with a cheap chinese hookah, a box of Soex QL, some boxes of Shisha, Foils, tongs, etc., basically everything a person needed to get the raw basics of hookah down. I went online on the vendor's site, and they had a quick tutorial on how to set everything up. I felt so stupid at that point, as I was thinking "What if I don't do it right, what if I suck, what if I dont like it what if what if" Got it assembled and set up, and went outside with the thing in the freezing cold. Had Al-Sultan Licorice in the bowl. Got the coals fully lit, and started pulling. It was dark out, so I couldn't tell if I was doing it right. After no taste and smoke (couldn't tell cause it was cold and my breath was visible) I sighed hard and about gave up. Then as I sighed, I saw a HUGE cloud of smoke. I was shocked! I was amazed! I never really could take a lot of smoke from anything, and this huge cloud came out of me! I pulled again, and got hit in the face with licorice. My mind was totally blown. I sat outside, on my frost covered deck, in the freezing cold, and finished the whole bowl by myself. That chinese hookah is gone (it broke, but I fixed it and gave it to a good friend for her birthday), and then bought a cheapo 4hose that I got REALLY ripped off on, but now I have a sahara smoke and it's a pretty good pipe. I repeatedly say that the hookah is the best thing I have ever impulse bought, as it is probably the only impulse buy I still use. I then found this site, and started branching out to other brands of shisha. My favorites are Nak and Tangiers. I only see this getting better and better.

That is a pretty cool story.


My first time was at the house of a friend I went to high school with.
He had just discovered hookah from another friend of ours and had bought his own.
I was in town visiting and he was all excited and busted it out to show me.
It was kinda cool getting all of this smoke to come out of me and it tasted good but at the time I wasn't really interested.
That was maybe a couple years ago or so.
A few months ago from today, one of my local buddies found his hookahs and we started smoking them at his place.
That is when I really started getting into it.
I found this forum and started reading all sorts of things about hookahs.
My friend from back home gave me his pumpkin which I used until I bought my Mya Econo Gelato which I still use today.

 I remember my first hookah experience. It was with my older sister, we were sitting on the back porch of our apartment in Florida, and we were smoking this tiny little 11 inch hookah. I didn't know anything about hookah at that point, but after receiving that hookah as a Christmas gift, well the rest is history.

Oh Of course yes! But that's one of the secret of my teenage. I still remember that I had been to a hookah bar with my friend. There we tried flavoured hookah and mine was mint flavour.
