If I opened a lounge [which I really want to] the is what it would be like. The entrance would be a main lobby like a nice hotel or bank right when you walk in with nothing but hookahs and hookah accessories. Then the main lounge would have a nice modern american setting. Amazing paintings, wood-like tile, track lighting [not pointing at people], low sitting compfy couches, built-in surrounding speakers, and lots of fake plants and end tables. Very homey and compfortable. Then have upstairs will be all the vip/private session rooms. Each room will have 2 large couches, 3 end tables, a coffee table, an in-wall tv, and lots of entertainment options. The entertainment options will be: movies, video games, board games, card games, and karaoke. All the tv's will be linked to our main computer so we can moniter the screens. All the entertainment will vary in price and have deposits. And of course lots of tea, I like to drink tea. And newbies have to wear a fez. happy.gif

Perhaps no tables, only lots of pillows and a variety of teas and karkade (sp?) served.

I believe you are trying to spell Karkadel? Is it a sweet cherry like drink? Anyway lost of pillows no tables sounds sweet especiialy since it keeps hookahs off the tables....I hate that.
Also cards that people can use, and lots and lots of Arabic music and belly dancers dancing in and out between groups and such. Just a very traditional middle eastern style setting. And if possible a camel? scratch_one-s_head.gif
And good coals and tobacco should be a given although that does not always happen...

i would like to see "mini" tables with the hookah on them with a pin spot(dim spot light on a focused area) on the hookah and dim lighting through the rest of the shop with the option to sit in chairs or on comfy pillows.

I would also like a small stage for acoustic music but if im going to be a regular id also want a decent selection of music so a radio would be key. I wouldnt rule televisions completely out, if you have them you can have a verity of people.

I would LOVE for a Tea bar to be incorporated... only really good loose leaf stuff(maybe revolution bagged tea)
and a good selection of cold beverages.
I would love to see snacks, not average junk food good stuff. I don't really know what i mean.

i would love if you could pic the size/type of hookah you were smoking from.

it would be best if they had a plethora of different coals and different shisha as well.

maybe you could even pick between your bowl and what not.

My biggest thing is i want them to pack it right and i want them to make sure that i am enjoying the smoke.

I like those ideas. If a lounge incorporated those three ideas... it'd be pretty amazing.

Thats what I forgot. My lounge would have a stage and the vip rooms would have a Closed Circuit channel to watch a camera on the stage. And most of the help will be belly dancers. And ALL of the helpers will be TRAINED, not just told real quickly how things are normally done.

Again

there is a lounge opening near my parents(northhampton MA) this fall.. i talked ot the owner on the phone and he said he plans on doing jsut that but the bowls will all be standard. and he is going to start with only 3 or 4 different types of hookahs and only 3 brands of shisha and wait before he invests everythign he has into it.

ROFL!!!

hOkay, here are my ideas:
i like to blow smoke rings and it annoys me when hookah lounges have their door/windows open so the breeze ruins any attempt to blow smoke rings or enjoy the lingering cloud.
have flat-screen TVs on some of the walls, but not used for movies or shows except at the request of the customers, like if they all agree to watch a movie, then throw one in. The TV otherwise would be used as a painting, like have different paintings/artistic photographs cycle through it at like 20 seccond intervals or maybe like artistic moving designs that cycle through kinda like the visualization thing on widows media player, but not so cheezy. i think ambient music would be nice. like some really simple house music or something. or like native american music in the background.

Somewhere like the 2 attached pics would be nice.
Definitely no rap and definitely no poetry.
Just ambient music (middle east or reggae) and patron banter.

yes to the pics, ambient chillout music. Edited by Scoop

well you guys seem to be describing a hookah bar near here. I don't think they own any chairs (if memory serves me) but they have to low to the floor L shaped benches covered in middle eastern pillows.

Which is one of the things I was going to do in my lounge, along with a mixture of leather/wood. And soft colors like rust, orange, red.

why dont we all just band together and start our own hookah lounge. we can gut Scoop's house and put 1 in there, and make scoop live in a makeshit house of old KM boxes when we order our hookahs? that would be so pimp

There was only one hookah bar that I use to frequent that was more middle eastern/chill. Mainly because the owner of the place was from Egypt. All the other places around there was just what most people here didn't like; club/r&b music and TV's everywhere.

Whenever that was the case I always preferred sitting outside away from all that crap.

In the end however the original hookah bar I mentioned ripped me off big time so I no longer go there (or any lounge for that matter) and do my hookah smoking at home.

we have a nice place here that has music on but its kinda low and they jsut have the visualizer thing on for music on the TVs, do movie nights on sunday.

but my ideal hookah place would be in close walking distance, maybe low music, tea/coffee selections (nice loose leaf tea ), good selection of food, along with the very good hookah.

i have found places that all had part of that but none of them had more than 2 of the above

Besides chill music, better quality hookahs will do.

Better coals

Better packing methods

I hate Hookah Bars. I avoid them as much as I can...Its just that I can't settle for anything but the best [smoking in my garage, though MY hookahs, would be the equivalent of the best]

I think you should give people the option to pack their own bowls or bring in some of their own stuff. I wouldn't announce it to everyone but if someone came up and asked if they could pack the bowl themselves or bring their own hookah then I would say that is fine. Just charge them however much it is for a bowl refill to cover the tobacco.

Plus if they know what they are doing they might be able to make it look like your hookahs smoke really good!

Right V

I have taken my hookah to hookah bars more than once. Some bars did not let me [even though I offered to pay whatever was the regular charge for one hookah], and other bars gladly accept. They all should, I mean, they are doing practically nothing, only brining the coals.

The only time i've ever smoked i public and paid for it, it was a crappy experience. The bowl was packed so high the foil was literally bulging and of course the shisha burned instantly. It was a middle eastern restaurant not a bar, so as a hookah bar virgin I'd most love to see a great atmosphere. I think that since the focus of bars seems to be the social aspect it makes sense to put customers in the most comfortable and inviting atmosphere possible. Something between contemporary and middle-eastern decor with some east asian influences. Fancy carved support poles, floor to cieling patterned fabric maybe dif interspersed throughout the place, lots of ornate pillows, and rusticly stained wood furniture and accents to match the pillars. I don't get the tv in a hookah bar thing. Yeah at home when you're relaxing but nothing kills atmosphere regardless of the place like T.V.'s. If you're gunna do it throw some movies with subtitles up there. Nice track lighting along the walls with dimly filtered lamps over tables. Musically I'd go for a world vibe with electronic undertones, throw some dub in there for good measure. And a healthy dose of Barry Manilow.

There's a chinese tea house near me that has the BEST look I've ever seen in a small niche business. So I'm basically imagining that place in middle-eastern theme.

It may be a strech but I'd love to have a nice chicken shawarma sammich too.

Man I could see myself running a hookah bar. Sounds great doesn't it? Dare to dream.

the only issue is that word would probably get out fast and there would be legal issues coming to play and could easily lose your business.
