1. I see that members come and go on here, but I think I'[m going to start making an active effort to come around again. I sent out a "WHAT'S UP HF" thread 4 years ago, to which MANY replied, and just never came through so sorry y'all but, if we get some traction I think we could have a real thing going again! As most, I quit smoking hookah due to children (those turds!). Hot coals and tobacco smoke just didn't seem intuitive with two little ones. My Fiancee and I made a pact to get the clouds rolling again once they were a little older, and we're sticking to it! In the mean time, as most seem to have done, I've picked up vaping as a means to cope with my tangiers and nhakla withdrawls. It works alright, I guess. Lol.
2. A FOUR YEAR TEASE, TO BE EXACT! But, I am determined to get back on HF regularly now. With two kids and (god, when did this happen) signs of crows feet developing, I'm surly enough to get back on message forums.
3. Hey guys. Anything crazy happen since my last visit?
4. How the hell has everyone beeen?? (I attached this picture because after being gone for so long, I figured my first post in a while should come with retribution. So, there ya go.)
5. Well, considering there is a substantial about of love/bitching going on about our leave of absence.. I'll be on HFTC tonight around 9. Feel free to join, I'd love to get a good crowd goin. ;)
6. On a side note, big problem beginners have is confusing air flow with heat management. You might have way too much heat on a bowl and think you need more due to a lack of air flow. use a toothpick to guide a path from the hole in the foil to the holes in your bowl. This will help ensure that a lack of airflow isn't remedied by an overcompensation of heat. †‹ Assuming your airflow isn't the issue, here are some preferences I like to use.. I love using three coals standing upright (tombstone style). This ensures even heating along with a smaller amount of heat on the bowl at any given time. Using three halves produces the same result with shorter coal life. †â€If there's still an issue, I would agree with the above and say look around for tutorials on heat management pertinent to the shisha you are using. Not to plug, but there are a few videos up on my/claytronmean's youtube channel going over heat management for specific shisha brands, doubletroublehookahreview.com. †Be sure to keep us updated.‹
7. Welcome to the world of everyone that doesn't live in Texas, California or Florida. My best suggestion would be to order from a vendor located in Texas. That should be the least amount of wait time, 3 days probably at the most if they ship it out promptly.
8.
i went to view my profile and noticed 2 ages Group Vested Members Active Posts 147 Profile Views 50 Member Title Emir - Of the Emerald Argileh Age 21 years old Birthday June 22, 1991 Gender Male Male Location waterloo iowa Age 20 whatsup with that
It's because you're twice the man others are.
9. As a side note... Personal revelation: Posting on a website for hookah smokers that there is a new website for hookah smokers doesn't bring in a large demographic.
10. ...That moment when you realize the name of this vendor isn't actually kitty wigs. As if I didn't take him seriously before...
11. Heat management is just knowing when too much heat is too much, and when too little heat is too little. There's a simple cloud to flavor ratio you have to keep in mind. If your clouds are huge, but the flavor is campfire, It's too much. If you have small clouds with weak flavor, feel free to push your coals in a little. My main tip for heat management is with most tobaccos, start off small. It's easy to add heat, but hard to undo a burn once it's set in place. I would suggest two coals on either side of your bowl far out, and then slowly push them in with every few pulls. There will be a point when your cloud size and flavor intensity cross. That's when you stay in your position. Over time, you'll know exactly how much heat to give each brand of tobacco and will be able to just throw them on and smoke. Until that time, watch your heat lcosely and less is always more.
12. Although I think an ice chamber is kind of worthless, It does have it's strong points. An ice chamber hookah weighs less than a solid stem, if that's something you want to consider. An ice chamber hookah is also useful with really hot days. I don't believe in the whole "the cooler the smoke the better" philosophy, I enjoy room temperature smoking. However, if you're smoking outside on a hot summer day, an ice chamber will keep your hookah stem at an average temperature rather than just the base which will leave your stem hot. Ice in my opinion is only useful to keep hookahs at average temperatures on very hot days.
13. When I find myself in a smoking rut, whether it's constant harshness, no flavor or small clouds, I do the same thing every time. I reset to factory settings. That's exactly what it sounds like, just with a computer or a phone. Clean your entire rig (along with hose if it's washable) using hot water, Isopropyl alcohol/vinegar and lemon juice (This includes the bowl!) Put all of your tobacco in new containers and mix it thoroughly. Make sure to check the expiration dates on all of your tobacco as well. After your rig has been wiped clean of any imperfections, consider rethinking your packing, heat management, hole poking, everything. Considering you're a new smoker, your technique hasn't been set in stone yet and it's worth looking at different styles of packing, etc. I know this seems like a lot of work and probably seems tedious to you along with other readers on the forum right now. This is just a suggestion. I recommend looking up different tutorials for packing Al Fakher, and never settle with a particular one until you fidn one that works for you. Here's my take on packing, hole poking, water levels and heat management with Al Fakher. P.S. - A common problem is too much heat. Consider heating the bowl more evenly with less heat, just spread throughout the bowl. I recommend all of the steps above, but this might be a quick fix for you.
14. Sorry chris, most of us were still trying to wake up from last night's shennanigans. TC!!!!
15. Just an idea, feel free to delete this mods. Ever since the lovely TinyChat thumbnail app was deleted, it's always hard to get a group together on tiny chat. You have to join hookah chat, or post a status update, or text members you have numbers for, or join randomly and hope someone is in the room. I figured since this is one of the most prominently visited portions of the forum, we could have this MegaThread that members could bump to be noticed and have other members join them. Assuming this idea is noteworthy and becomes pinned.... HEY! JOIN ME IN TINYCHAT! 16.
Longest bowl I ever did was 8 hours on my Tangiers Mini Phunnel using Tangiers Indian Summer and Coconaras. Or maybe it was AF Cocos. I can't remember. Either way, it was a magical night in TC, back when the place would be packed every night...
Similar experience. Tangiers small packed with Noir Indian Summer. Lasted around 6 hours all day on day one, woke up the next morning and decided to be ballsy and test it out. Got another 4 hours out of it the next day. The last 30 minutes were shitty, but it's the ONLY time I've had a session last over 3 hours. 10 hour session for a two day smoke. Extremely impressed, and I'm a die hard session length skeptic. I don't know if it was due to conservative heat or a brilliant pack, but that was the first and last time I had such a long session with good flavor output. Don't try this at home, kids.
