wow, i only put like 5 or 6 holes scattered in the mid (a lot less then from what ive been reading here), and make sure the coal covers them. I almost never havev problems with my setup, so i guess in the end its preference...

I only put a few holes in the center now, and every once in a while i blow into the hose (not too hard or else youll wet the coal) just to clear out the waterpipe. im a newb tho, but this seems to have helped me.

hmm actually i thought it was the other way around. when i went to Egypt no one called it hookah, only shisha. so i figured that "hookah" is probably just some American nickname for it. or maybe "hookah" came from hubbly bubbly. not too sure though.
