Is This A Male-only Pursuit? Are There Any Women Who Enjoy Hookah?

Recommended Posts

I'm a female, and I smoke on occasion. I don't own a hookah, so whenever I do smoke.. it's with my boyfriend or anyone else that has one. It's just a nice little relaxing feeling, sitting in the backyard and smoking a good flavor.

I can only say that we have lots of hookah smokers at my work. Of 800 employees, probably 25% are into hookah. Of those in the field all are men. In the office of about 100 people we have maybe 4 men into it. The rest 20+ all girls - in fact only one girl who doesn't like it. And all of us enjoy trying new shisha, the ritual of setting up, all of it. I also own a hubbly bubbly so I'll use that if I'm just looking for something quick and easy.

Girl here...
I love packing my own bowls, even if its not on my own hookah.
Most of the people I know that own a hookah are guys...(did that make sense?)
Most of my female friends would rather go to a lounge to smoke, just for the more social scene.

Hey. I'm a girl and I've been smoking shisha for hm, over two years. One of my best friends (male) introduced me to it at uni. One of the best smokes I've had was with him and five other guys. Another time there were like twenty people in a big room, four hookahs, and only one other girl. I've had my hookah for a year now and I'm more into it than anyone I know. Been to a lounge twice back home in California - once with three girls and my cousin (male) and second time with a girl. Went to a lounge in Florida a week ago and met a girl who worked there who likes smoking shisha. It was cool talking to someone about brands and stuff. I tend to smoke alone but lately if I've smoked with someone it's been a girl. No particular reason why. It's just worked out that way. huh.gif

  • 8 months later...
I have a bunch of female friends that partake...
my ex smokes with me about once a week.
my buddy's fiance owns one.
my good friend back home owns one, but I'm not positive she partakes in the NHT aspect, I would hope not...
anytime I break it out at home at my friends' parties, a lot of the girls there will sit and smoke a bowl with me

My wife has never smoked in her life, but she partakes in the hookah with me!!!

A few of her friends occasionally stop by and join in, but only two of them mostly guys, but there are girls out there that smoke!

=P This is a pretty old thread.....but I'll chime in aswell. Just this past weekend I got my gf to smoke hookah, she enjoyed it but I kept telling her to take bigger hits and forgot she doesnt smoke at all and ended up not feeling great by the end of the night wallbash.gif Shes totally into it now and we were talking about maybe getting her a mini smile.gif

My female friends love it too, but would have no idea where to begin with setting it up... even though they have watched me many a time. Most don't even know there are brands of tobacco, or how many flavors there really are. dry.gif They just like to smoke the stuff.

But I won't even fathom the thought of hookah being a male-centric thing. It is in my little bubble, for the most part, but it's a small bubble. smile.gif

I've noticed that too oolatec... even though I have more female friends that smoke hookah than male friends, and a higher percentage of my female friends smoke it than my male friends, my female friends have always experienced bewilderment at the set up of a waterpipe. Even my most whimsically gay male friends have found it simple, while even my most butch gay female friends have found it foreign and confusing.

I'm thinking that the reason must be related to the phallic nature of a hookah.

0_0 Every time I have a hookah session with people it ends up being a 1 to 2.5 ratio of guys to girls.

not halves but reduced form noobs...

When it comes to Iran, I wear women like jewlery often being like 4 girls to 1 guy because they don't give out hookahs to women without a male escort. Lucky me happy.gif Edited by Yamin

I can probably easily say that lots of my female friends love hookah more than I do [this goes to the ones that dont have a hookah and tend to miss it and not have it whenever they want, so they love it when they get a chance to try it]

The first person to show me a hookah and take me to a hookah bar was my aunt, and her friend (Both girls) I was 13 at the time. Now I'm 20, have my own apartment, and my own hookah and my girlfriend, sister, cousins, and brothers girlfriend all smoke with me alot....

In some cultures the women who do hookah are either elite or the prostitutes or concubines. but thats old school thinking...thats why come culture frown upon women doing hookah but there starting to open up to the idea of women doing it now.
