Gordon Mac:
Do you honestly think water is imperious to the blaze of the SUN???
The sun is like millions of degree's bro.

If the end of the world comet is in sight and heading straight for earth, i will definately be lighting up.
Dying with a hookah hose in hand is the way to do it.

These gloom and doom predictions have always been with us. In the late 1890s, people were convinced that the end of the world would occur in the year 1900. In the late 990s, same thing. Lots of panic. Ultimately, its a bunch of crapola. If the world ends, it will end, nobody's going to predict it, because such things aren't possible by humans yet, at least nobody has proven they can do it with any real accuracy or consistency. Its more superstitious mysticism. We are supposed to believe that because a pretty looking number of year, with lots of zeros from the supposed time Jesus was born is going to mark the end of the world? Superstition. Check out the Rig-Veda and the cyclic destruction and creation of the universe. Very similar to actual cosmological mainstream theories.

Well said. I just want to expand on that last statement a bit. Hinduism, and by extension, buddhism, meshes quite nicely with modern theories of quantum physics. In addition to the cyclic destruction and creation of the universe, the ideas of subjective reality and the interconnectedness of everything are reflected in both ancient texts and modern scientific dicoveries. Einstein showed that all matter is essentially a variation in the time-space continuum. This essentially states that there is no discrete boundary between one thing and another; everything is connected.

Heisenberg showed (with his famous cat in the box thought experiment) that observed phenomena are affected by the existence of an observer. This was further proved empirically by experiments with light, acting as both a wave and a particle. The upshot? The essence of reality is affected by our existence, and by extension, without our existence, reality itself may not exist. This idea is very similar to the hindu concept of maya, or illusion.

There are two excellent books that examine this connection between eastern philosophy and quantum physics. The first is called The Tao of Physics, by Fritjof Capra. The other is called The Dancing Wu-Li Masters, by Gary Zukav. Highly suggested reading, especially good accompanied by hookah...

Figured I'd throw some random thing into this, but did it not occure to anyone that this so called end in 2012 was I'm assuming in the Aztek year, and they deffinitly did not have the same year as we use. They probobly had no idea of the whole Jesus thing and unless someone actually looks up the Aztek year, for all we know it could have either passed, or is a long ass time from now. Its kinda like how even though we say the year is 2007, over in asia, the Chinese year is way way off and i know the Buddhist year is something like 2055 right now. So this 2012 really doesn't mean a thing.

Ok, besides all the religious views and Mayan calendar skepticism, there are some scientific probabilities that could occur on Dec. 21, 2012.

In the first time since 2001, on Dec 21, the sun's magnetic poles will switch. This also happens to be when Jupiter and Saturn are lined up closest to the sun. When the two largest planets of our solar system are lined up with the sun, it creates magnificant disturbance in the sun's magnetic concentricity field. These two events can cause solar flares. They have a good possibility of being very large. Even a small one's radiation that comes in contact with Earth can cause a whole continent to go without electrical power.

At the same time, our solar system will be crossing over the Milky Way's Galactic Equator. The imaginary line is still a theory, but since there is a massive black hole in the middle of the Milky Way, crossing this equator could switch magnetic fields. Therefore, Earth's magnetic poles could move substantially. This equator also is the point in our galaxy where mass is maximized. More mass is more gravity equals the potential for greater solar flares.

So all of this could lead to earthquakes, volcanoes, very high tides, increase melting of polar icecaps, and solar flares that could affect Earth. Something will happen, it could be a massive change, or a very little one. We still do not know what will happen when our solar system goes through this date. We have never seen this many possibilities all in the same short time period. Hell, science just discovered many of these possibilities and theories within the past decades.

I'm pumped and can not wait to find out what will happen.
