Buying a hookah. Got some questions.

I would agree with HeadCheese - unless you entertain a lot and those
you do entertain enjoy hookah, get a single hose.  In some ways I
kinda wish I did, but I do enjoy our 4 hoser - very nice when we have
company.  When smoking alone or with my wife, we usually keep 3
ports plugged and just share one hose.  Otherwise, multiple hoses
could be overkill.

BTW, I would be curious to know - have any of you heard this comment
before when introducing hookah to friends:  "I feel like I'm doing
something bad, but I'm not!"  followed by giggling and peels of
laughter . Cracked me up.  Must have been the familiar sound (smoke being pulled through bubbling water) from our youth,
since we're all in our mid-40's to 50's.  They also cannot believe
how smooth and tasty it is.  Pretty much the same properties that
got me into it .

Good luck with your search, keep poking around this forum.  It's a great resource, with lots of good info.

I would buy a small hookah to start with,  mine is right next to
my monitor and I smoke at the computer all day long.  You can get
them for as little as $50.  If you find that you REALLY enjoy
hookah smoking and you'd like to start entertaining your friends,
you can then buy a larger multiple hose hookah.  If you decide
that you'd rather buy a multiple hose hookah now,  then go to
www.Hookah-Shisha.com and under Hookahs,  look at the 3 hose
Syrian Glyph hookahs.  They have a special Auto-Sealing System
that will allow you to smoke with others without having to place your
thumb over your mouthpiece so someone else can take a puff.

I've always smoked taller ones, they look GREAT and are fun with friends.
Get one that looks majestic, not some plain one like the Chinese.
I never had more than a double hoser, but I'm considering a 4 hoser sometime.
I like the Fumari 4-hose tall Egyptian, but I'll consider a quality Syrian as well.
What I've noticed is that when you have 3 or 4 hoser and people are
actively puffing, even if you pack the bowl correctly and do the foil
pattern perfectly (see my diagram in Photo Section here), the ma'asell
gets overheated and you start getting the burn taste! People should be
smoking overall at a slower pace so as to prevent this.

If you're going to go with a 30" 2 hosed hookah,  then you ought
to be buying a Syrian "Auto-Seal System" hookah from
www.Hookah-Shisha.com

Personally,  I'm a BIG fan of the 3 hosed Syrian Glyph Hookah.

The advantage to getting a multi-hose hookah with the "Auto-Seal
System" is that when smoking with others,  you won't have to cover
the hole in your mouthpiece with your thumb in order for someone to
take a puff.  If you order one of those 2 hose hookahs from
TheHookah.com,  then you can expect to have to do EXACTLY
that.  If you don't plug-up the mouthpiece hole,  then your
hookah will not be airtight.

Frankly,  it's a pain in the ASS to have to worry about your
hookah being airtight.  And with the Syrian "Auto-Seal" hookahs
from www.Hookah-Shisha.com you WON'T have to worry about an airtight
hookah.

And think of it this way,  not only will your hookah be
airtight,  but instead of smoking with just one other
person,  you'll be able to smoke with two other people,  all
the while being confident that your hookah is AIRTIGHT!!!
