Alright so im still not very educated in vaping but enough to get by.
I originally started out with an ego t kit. Now I use an innokin itaste vv with a kanger tech Aerotank duel coil.
I am interested in getting into these mechanical mods. I would need one of the rebuildible tank types over dripper because it would be too tough to constantly drip while driving.
so recommended 18650 setups and tanks? I'd need to get a battery charger im assuming and a handful of batteries with how much I vape. I have almost no income but could save or put it on my Christmas and birthday list. Might be able to persuade my gf to get me one since I gave her my honda (pay it forward since I got a mercury given to me through family).

Ive been vaping Drakes Vapes, Vape Lounge brand, and just got into Diversity (local shop going international)

But if you could link me to some good deals or trusted vendors, and recommend me some various rigs (maybe why its the km compared to mitsuba) it would be much appreciated.

Thanks.
love yinz guys

Well, depending on what Ohm's your tank is running, you may not even need a mech mod. Say you're running a 1.6 ohm coil in your kanger. If you use ANY decent battery in your tube, then it's going to be too much for that coil setup. It'll make your vape harsh and just unpleasant.

But, if you still want to venture out into mechanicals, I have a Nemesis I'd be willing to send to you free of charge. 18650 tube, stainless, the only qualm is the lock ring is a little mangled. It still completely functional, but it became stuck one day and I may have had a little too much to drink so I took a wrench to it lol. Its just a little scratched up. That being said, I'm almost positive you could find a replacement for it online, the Nemesis is one of the most common mods you'll find around.

I'll also throw in 2 MNKE IMR 18650 batteries also.

I would love it, thank you! I plan on getting one of those mod tanks that you build your coils yourself for them and eventually a dripper for when im not driving.

Can I send you some hookah stuff in appreciation good sir?

That won't be necessary buddy! I don't smoke too often these days due to pretty much never being home haha. Pm me your addy and I'll get everything out to you this weekend, maybe Monday at the latest depending on if I have to work OT Saturday.

Also, as far as rebuildable tanks go, the fogger is pretty nice. I know Chris had one and liked it, and I've vaped a few that friends own.

Damn, I'd send you some goodies too, but I JUST sold off all my extra vape gear that I wasn't using to a coworker. :(

I can recommend the Nemesis, highly, probably the best bang for your buck mech mod on the market. I had mine paired with a TOBH Atty v2 clone, and it was a GREAT setup. You can find these on eBay for pretty cheap, around $20 or less. Sounds like Travis is hooking you up with the rest, so all you really need to worry with is an RDA or RTA (or both), a decent charger (I use the Nitecore, but it's $20 on eBay), an ohm reader to check your builds, and some kanthal/cotton for building coils. All can be found on eBay for the best price (check the sellers for 100% feedback to ensure quality products are being obtained).

When it comes to mechs the one thing you have to understand is that you are only going to get the voltage that is available in your battery. There for the longer you vape the battery voltage will go down. A fully charged battery is around 4.2v as you vape it will drop and it is noticeable. Unlike your regulated device where you are getting a constant voltage until the battery dies. The advantage comes when there is no amp limit on your device, this can also be tricky because if you are pulling to many amps on your battery then the battery can vent and it will be a bad time. So when it comes to batteries you are looking for a high amp limit and a nigh mAh (how long the battery will last). The lower the resistance of your built the more watts (power) that will be going to your coils producing a hotter vape with more flavor and more vapor.

Currently the best batteries are the Sony vtc series with the vtc5 having the highest mAh. They have a 30 amp limit which allows you to safely build to a .16ohm pulling around 30amps. If you were to use an AW imr battery with a 10 amp limit on that build it would vent. So knowing the amp limits of your batteries and what your build is at is VERY important since there is NO safety measures. You can use vapecalc.com to plug in your build resistance and 4.2 for the voltage and that will give you the amps that build will pull.

My highest recommended mod are the 30-50 watt variable wattage mods. Vaporshark DNA 30, IPV, Hanamodz, etc. DNA30 and the 50w VW devices rule the roost. Put anything on them, it will vape amazing. Don't get me wrong, I love the look of mech mods, they are currently leagues ahead of everything except the custom box mods, but they just don't cut it for actual vapor production.

i dont understand why you think they dont cut it for vapor production. No matter what you use what really matters is the build on the atty, that being said my .12 build that i currently have on my nimbus with a keg cap on top of my copper manhattan pulls 147 watts of power on a fresh battery. how does a 50w device hang with that?

Oops, I sort of worded that wrong. What I MEANT to say was that the box mods are much more flexible when it comes to vapor production, as you don't have to build to suit the mech, you just build whatever you want and adjust accordingly. It's a blast making coils with high resistances that heat up instantly and crank out huge vapor. Of course you can build to suit with a mech and get amazing vapor, didn't mean to imply they don't (I wouldn't have any of them if they didn't).

As for builds themselves and draw, I'm not too concerned with the numbers, I'm concerned with the results. Mechs and VW are just different ways to do the same thing. I personally like the flexibility and ability to dial in the vapor. I know you prefer mechs, and that's cool.

I didn't mean to come off hostile just couldn't understand what you were saying. For me the biggest advantage to regulated devices is that you get the same vape until your battery dies.  But I just like warm to hot vapes and ive never had a regulated device that gives me the vapor I want. Plus a box isn't comfortable in my hand. There is no right way to vape, everyone vapes to there own preference and that is a good thing.

I've thought about a box mod, but I'm just so damn happy with my Stingray X and Mephisto combo right now.

Its just I'm still very much a noob to vaping (even though ecigs since april last year and these kinds for a while)...I'm still learning the lingos and terms and whats what...I know I like my 1.5 ohm double coil as opposed to the 2.5 ohm single. I know I put my amps at around 3.5 with really watery stuff like drakes vapes (pg I think) and around 4.2 with thicker stuff (vg I think) .

But best way I can explain my learning curve is: Think of it as I'm a guy who just switched in the past year from a pumpkin hookah to a mya qt, and used soex but now is catching his bearings with af, nakhla, and fantasia. He's been starting to approach tangiers and is getting into, say, an al nawras with a phunnel, but doesnt quite grasp why everything works the way it does and is basically still learning. The guy that used to use quicklights all the time and is starting to get their hands into Cocos and other natural.
ya know? Im just in early stages of understanding I guess lol.

I am really excited and love it though.

P.s. I know how to make Kashmir vape juice now, I just dont have the money to do it yet, being poor :/ :)

Kashmir e-juice?! Dude, we gotta get you producing that shit! Lol.

I asked around on reddit if anyone knew of a good grape/lemon/floral flavor (static starlight), and a guy responded saying he'd try to make it. Supposedly sent me samples, but nothing in the mail yet.

Anyway, you have your mechanical mod, which is just a metal tube with firing switch at bottom and a top cap where the atomizer (whether it be rebuildable tank atomizer similar to what you're likely using now just bigger, or a rebuildable dripping atomizer where juice must be dripped directly into the coils/build deck every so many puffs) is screwed on. Battery goes inside the tube.

Box mods are the same more or less, but some have chips in them that allow you to adjust the wattage. Basically like an MVP on steroids.

Building coils is easy. You just take kanthal wire (right now I use 2)g), wrap it around a drill bit, then put it on the deck. Organic cotton is put through the coils for your wick.

There's TONS of YouTube videos out there. That's how I learned everything.

I NEED KASHMIR PEACH JUICE

That'd be amazing. For all the amazing flavor opportunities that are possible with e-juice, it surprises me it hasn't been done already.

Thank you for the breakdown. ..the comparison helped a lot :)

As for kashmir juice, it will probably be a lot of trial and error but I should be making first attempts after Christmas (im poor and I dont know how im gonna afford gift shopping as is lol).
I'm thinking I'll use a pg base since its more watery and friendly with most vape setups.
It does involve chemistry to make it :)
...my sister said she can probably help (degree in chemical engineering from CMU).
But basically its an extract method forming a crystallized flavor that would be added to vape juice :)

Ok so I'm new to vaping as well but my friends and I have been religious hookah smokers for the past two years, not trying to hijack a thread or anything but I figured since we're already on the topic here.  However I am not new to the properties and aspects of proper usage and handling of lithium batteries, I used to be hardcore into RC hobbies that used multicell lipo battery packs.  I'm also familiar with coils, ohm's law, building circuitry to a specific resistance etc from previous hobbies like car audio and due to my career as a mechanic.  Basically I'm familiar with most of the aspects, just not applying them in this way.

That being said, I'm kind of torn between getting a clone mech mod vs a variable wattage unit.  I have no qualms about using the more manual approach of the mech setups, but how many pulls on average do you guys get from a single battery charge?  I'm used to dealing of course with protected devices that have cutoffs when lipo batteries get below a certain voltage.  I've seen lipo fires firsthand, I don't want that near my face thank you very much.  So obviously VW devices appeal to me, but just starting out I don't want to dump money into one of those and find out I don't like the way it smokes so a mech would be a better choice in my eyes for now.  Another aspect would be the making of my own coils, there appears to be a great deal of variety when it comes to how many different ways there are to wind a coil for a vape unit.  I've read several of the other threads here so I feel I have the basics down pretty well but it still feels like I have to some pieces missing.  Someone school me please.

I can't school you on batteries, but I use a mech mod everyday, and with a single 18650 Sony VTC4 I can use it the entire day no problems. Mind you I don't sit there and chain vape it all day. But I also don't hardly touch it. I'd consider my usage to be casual vaping. One time I forgot to change batteries one morning, and I got a second day out of a battery. But I was conscious and was making a point to not vape as much that second day, and on my way home I could tell there was significant power loss, as my battery was about dead.

I've considered getting a box mod, but I just love the form factor and ease of a mech mod. There's no wiring, buttons, etc. to mess with. Just pop my battery in and go. I see folks with box mods having to replace their 510 connectors, buttons, etc. I don't really want to have to mess with all that.

Hope this helps some in making your decision!

See my friends and I when we're smoking hookah, we're of course smoking for several hours at a single time.  We were thinking of doing this as an alternative to hookah with this being less hassle so I have a feeling I would be vaping for several hours in a single sitting at the end of a day and not much during the day at all.  I've used several cheap hookah pens before but I never used them very much as it was a pain working your lungs to get a decent pull off of them.  I've already picked out pretty much an exact replica of the mod setup shown in the "Thinking About Seriously Getting Into Vapes" thread.  I'll go ahead and pull the trigger on ordering those things and let you guys know how it turns out!

If you have a couple of batteries and always keep one on your charger, then it shouldn't be a big deal to vape for several hours straight instead of a hookah session. I do it when hanging out with friends all the time. You're definitely right in that it's way less hassle- I can do a could build and it'll last a long time (I tend to rebuild my coils every few weeks simply out of boredom, not because I have to), and I replace my cotton every few days, which takes no time at all. The rest is just drilling the juice and changing the battery every day. Way easier than setting up and cleaning up a hookah. I used to love hookah, but with how much my life has changed recently, vaping just fits my lifestyle better.
