So if this goes well I will have a really small batch of hookah friendly shaped coals. If it works REALLY well and makes big enough batches (I think it will knock off at least 50 lbs. per batch)
And if all goes sour, the schrapnel from the exploding kiln should do a pretty good number.Good luck!

3/8" to a little over 1/2" in the pics. Those are the ones I am cooking tonite. I am heading out the door (from work) to get this party started. I just have to swing by the hardware store for some plumbing stuff.
My buddy is actually bringing the stuff over to my house because my RX8 is not the best thing to use for a truck.... that's convenient!

The building of the mini-monster went real smooth. Here are some from the first batch. I will check out how they burn after work.
once again, can i have the penny? (and your RX8, i love those cars)
that's a quarter! But since I can't recognize money from other places I can't say much!!! As far as the RX8 you would probably like the one I have a little more than the average one. I put a mini-ITX mainboard with a 7" touchscreen and Windows XP. It has wireless NIC, bluetooth, GPS, a 200gig HD with a metric buttload of MP3's. The audio ties into the stock sound system through an aux input.
If it was not for all the extra work I put into it of course I would give it to ya tho bro!
oh.my.god. i think i just ovulated.
HAHA!!! At least your screen name indicates to me that would be impossible!  That is the only thing I have done with it other than a better alarm system.
This is a pic of what gets the gals attention. When you open the back door you can nearly hear them "ovulating"!
The bang for the buck on these is incredible. No pun intended on the "bang" and the "ovulating" gals, merely a coincedence.

We will get the thread back on topic after I get home and test these little guys out. I wish I had a camcorder that connected to my PC so I could do a vid and time lapse to show how the coals burn and how long they last.
Find a program that would let me speed up the vid to make it go quickly would be the idea.

I was wondering how comfy those are. A friend was thinking of getting a MX5 but apparently they're really uncomfy. is the RX8 any better?you could like take a photo every few minutes and use animation shop (comes with paintshop pro) to put the frames together into a short animation or something.
Someone fire a thread up in general discusion or something!
Call it "members other toys" or something.
As far as comfort, it is comfortable to me. Leather in Texas can be pretty uncomfortable while waiting for the AC to get cold though. But it has seat heaters for what few cold days we get here. And the lunbar for the back is nice. It is a lot more comfortable than any of the RX7's I owned. I love to drive it.

I came home and took an extended lunch. The suspense was getting to me. I threw a 3/4" diameter 3/8" thick onto the hookah. It was not ehough for a great smoke but I wanted a good view of seeing how it would burn start to finish. It burned for 30 minutes after I put it on the hookah. It was doing a commendable job for just one small coal for a while. After it got down too far I kept it going to see how long in took to burn up and look for any residues. A 1.25 diameter by itself I think would have worked out very well I believe. I believe I will find out tonight
Anyway, these pics show from start to finish. No residue and clean ash. No noticable influence on taste. A very dense red glow at it's peak.
Someone fire a thread up in general discusion or something!
I don't see a general discussion forum? All I see is group for hookah lovers (here), jokes, and serious discussion; then intro and comments, the 2 at the top for mods/whatever
hmmm, the ash looks like it could cause problems.you don't use many holes in your foil really do you!!!
The ash is a lot like the ash from the quicklights I use. I usually make more holes than that. As small as the coal was I was not real sure how well that would work. Tonight I have more time and can use a bigger coal and get an serious smoke session. I will get a measure and write all dimensions and keep a serious smoke going.
So far it has been pretty good results compared to my quicklights. I am not planning on using those other than having a party and needing a quick coal. I can tell a difference but I don't burn them long enogh before I put them on. They taste nasty sometimes and burn way too quick.

Does any of the natural coals on the market come cut like this? round and flat on the sides?

Not that I'm aware of. I swear I have pulled actual branches out of the bag of Romman Lemonwood. So yours look awfully tempting.

Hmmm, I am glad I started with quick lights. I made the assumption that it was how coals needed to be shaped. I have heard about charcoal "fingers". I am thinking that anything smaller in diameter than 1" should probably be at least 3/4" thick. Anything like 1/2" diameter should be about an inch or so long I am thinking.

So the test batches I send will have several sizes and shapes.

lol tell me about it. I pulled out a frigin trunk out of my romman bag. They come in random sizes and shapes. Some the size of half a cucumber. I take a hacksaw to mind and make them nice and round and thin.
