New To This Site, And Hookahs.

Greetings. I am 19, and bought my first hookah about a week ago. It's a 12" MYA hookah, it has about a 5-6" base. I buy 50g boxes of Jewels shisha, and I use Holland coals. I think they're quick-lights, they spark when I light them. I love this thing, I smoke out of it at least 2 times daily. I seen someone post something about using a red wine and water mix base last night. I tried it with mixed berry, it was delicious.

On to my questions:

Reading some people's hookah stories makes me think that my smoking isn't lasting as long as it should. So I was thinking that I have a crappy product; whether it be coals, shisha, or the hookah itself. Or maybe I draw on it too frequently. So I guess what I'm asking is for a "Little better than vague" explanation of the smoking process (Time between drags, amount of shisha, height of the foil screen, etc.).

Also, what are a few places online that I can order my hookahs and accesories? That would be nice.

I live in a small town in Alaska, so I can't really get any other brands of coals or shisha. Thank you for your time.

First off great hookah, i would replace the coals with something like coconaras and the tobacco with almost anything else. I prefer hookah company for all my goods but can say good things about hookahjohn and nazarhookah. I would look into getting stuff online since it usually winds up being cheaper even with shipping as long as you make a fairly large order. There are also coupon codes for being on this site. Eventually, down the road, i would upgrade to a nicer hose, (razan, nammor, km, narbish, maxura) Also work on your packing as it takes time to get great sessions.

I didn't know that the hookah was good. I see people talking about $100.00 hookahs on here. I got mine for $65.00 at the tobacco store. There's a big tobacco festival going down at the end of the month though. Maybe there will be more variety there. So for long sessions, I should pack the shisha in? I tried earlier, but it's a bit sticky. Will finer shishas burn longer?

Sometimes. I just thought that it was coal smoke from ash falling through my screen. Though now that I think about it, the coal smoke is always the same amount. It seems to also produce less smoke.

When you get really dried stick to your foil shisha with a harsh taste. At some point you have to much heat and are burning your shisha. That's when you back off the coals or cut them in half whatever ya need to do for less heat.

First off, welcome to the forum!

Second, you need some better tobacco and coals, brotha. I suggest Nakhla and Tangiers Lucid for tobacco, and Coconaras for natural coals. For QL coals I suggest CH QL coals (It's abbreviated because you're not allowed to say the "C" word on the forum for its NHT connotations).

Third, I suggest you get a small Tangiers phunnel bowl and a wide-gauge washable hose such as a Nammor or Razan.

Thank you so much guys, this site has to be the most friendly forum I have ever visited. It's kindness exceeds even that of doujinstyle, a forum that I used to frequent before I graduated.

Thank you so much for the links btw. As soon as I get cash I'm gonna order a good starter kit. Get myself to the point where I have a good voice around here. Is the "High" feeling from my hookah from the newbie state of my hookah smoking? I feel as if I'm asking way too many questions, just say something if you're annoyed. I just really like hookah smoking, it looks like a way of life.

Well the buzz you are getting now is more than likely do to being new to hookah. However there are different shishas out there with some higher in nicotine content that will still give you a buzz even if you been smoking for awhile. Top 2 you will hear mentioned most will be nakhla and tangiers noir. They can rock your world for a lil bit..hehheh Some don't like that feeling so they go with a washed or mellower brand of shisha Like Starbuzz or Social Smoke and such. Also make sure you get good oxgen between pulls and some liquids and all should be well. :-) Hope this helps.

I've been using foil. The screen is only good if you have a bowl packed up to the very top. Tin foil can actually get down into the bowl piece.

Also, my shisha always gets dried out really bad, and stuck to my foil screen.

Ah, I'm also a newbie and was warned about that with crappy shisha. You have CRAPPY shisha if it's that dried out and it hasn't been sitting around in the open. I think, as others here will certainly tell you, changing your shisha and using 2 coals worked around the bowl to start will be your best bet. As to Shisha, it seems like people here really like the Al Fakher, Nakhla, and Al Waha for more affordable staple brands. If you are into Nicotine free shisha, I always have some Al Baraka lying around. Tastes great.
