Howdy guys and gals!

I've been a reader of these awesome forums for some months now, but I finally decided to make an account, as I felt a strong urge to share my latest project with the world.

Short introduction about myself as this is my first post. I'm a 19 year old student, currently living in Bærum, Norway. Hookah has been a hoppy of mine for about two years I guess.
As the availability of hookahs here up nort in Norway is not very great, I decided that I would not buy my third pipe, but build it myself. So I found my paper and pencil and started scetching.

This hookah is mostly built out of tubes and pipes you normally use in your bathroom, but together with some other everyday objects, I've turned it into a hookah I can be proud of.

I tried to take as many photographs in could during the assembly proccess, so here we go!

First, the hoses. Originally I planned three hoses for the hookah, but later I had to do some design changes due to parts not fitting as I intended, so the final result does only have two hoses.
The following pictures were taken before I knew any of this, so here you'll see all the three hoses being assembled.

Here you see all the parts needed for one hose yet to be assembled.

And here follows some pictures of the finished hoses.

Next is some pictures of the hoses attached to the pipe going down to the smoke chamber. At the bottom of each pipe, you can see a ball valve working as an "on/off" switch for each hose.

Next thing was to seal the top of these pipes, as I've done here.

Then I fixed the holes in the base lid (well, it's actually my friend in the picture, starring as an up and coming hookah model :P), so the pipes could go through easily.

Then I started cutting the pipes for the stem (Yes, that is me in the picture).

Then all the parts were ready for us to assemble.

And..............(drum roll)

Here is the final result (well, not final, as I made some changes to the base today and switched the tape holding the pipes together at the top with a real metal clamp, one picture down and you'll see v2.0).

And here is how it looks today, after the changes I made. I am very pleased with the final result.

The hookah is 100% air tight, and the ball valve system works perfectly. I was stupid enough to forget my camera when we smoked it today, so I've got no smoke pictures yet. But I will publish them after the next time I smoke. I must say thou, it was legendary. The hookah smoked way better than every hookah I've ever owned.

Please tell me what you think.

Happy smoking,

looks really awesome! wheres the coal tray?? thats my only criticism! otherwise it looks really stellar!

true, good point. im sure it wouldn't be too hard to add one, just slip it on the tubing. actually, the top tray from an Al Fakher hookah would probably fit perfect.

Def looks like a great build, very interested. It would be cool to try it sometime. Only thing I thought after seeing the first pic was that it looks top heavy, but in the second, with the metal base, that doesn't seem to be the case. Anywho, well done, looks awesome.

Thanks for the warm words guys.

To answer some of your questions. I'm currently working on both a coal tray and a new bowl. I want to make them fit nicely with the current design so I guess its gonna take some days with testing before I'm pleased. I will of course update this post with pictures of the result when I'm done.

The hookah is not very heavy at all. Only 7.3 lbs (thats the final version, with the metal base, the last picture in my first post).

It's been an expensive project though, as the total cost is ~380$ with todays exchange rate from NOK to USD. I've used only first class materials, aka stainless steel, chromed copper tubes ect ect. But in my opinion it's worth every dollar, as nothing beats the feeling of accomplishment when something you've made yourself is working way beyond your expectations.

I'm probably going to smoke it tomorrow with the gang. Just have to go into town and get some new tobacco. I'll upload smoking pictures as I promised (if I remember my camera this time , that is :P )

You could try to get one of these Cast mini-phunnels, seems like it would fit the overall scheme of the hookah...

I believe this is the best home made hookah that I've seen since Poncho's yet it has the simplicity for any of us to do at home. How much did you pay for all the parts?

Also, my main problem on homeamde hookahs has always been the bowl section. I can't figure a way out to keep the bowl in still and tight. What did you do for this other than just shoving a stem into a bowl? Edited by thehelios

Wow! That looks nice, but $380? Now that takes dedication and a sincere love for hookah. Props!

Very well done! Very well done indeed sir!

Reminds me of some kind of shiny extraterrestrial space going craft.

I wish that I may one day possess the initiative to create such a tremendous work of art.

Would love to see some action shots!
