Pictures Of Smoking Hookah (This Is Interesting You B*****Ds) Jk

Recommended Posts

So today and yesterday I got bored and I had my camera around and decided to take some self photos of me smoking and edit them. I'm into photography a bit and I like to experiment (with photography). Smoking nakhla and al fakher mixes that are plenty tasty and medium-strong hitting. Very tasty, smooth, clean, and good volume. Actually for some of them I was smoking mizo so the taste got better and more smoke. Ice in the base of the hookah (for people who are really into hookah), my hookah seems tough because i have in the past put lots of ice in it to the point when it was smoke without flavor, but the base survived. Lesson learned and now I only put a few ice cubes in to cool the smoke a bit. Natural light coals of course.
And yea.... thats the set up so I guess I'll post the pictures now or sometime.

BTW

Sorry I'm not some handsome motherf****r Just an average person who likes smoking hookah a lot. Opinion (Only nice ones) would be nice and maybe some discussion of your favorite mixes or photography (not that there hasn't been enough discussions on those topics).

Also in general I never ever take photos of people smoking when I'm in a group or a hookah lounge. I truly dislike being rude and I don't like being that creepy photographer person so I have personal respect for other people. These were taken by myself (shutter release cord), smoking by myself.

Just to reiterate I was only smoking tobacco. No NHT. None. Some of the photos might imply that there was NHT involved because of their distorted nature but that is just me playing around in photoshop

P.S. Admins don't hurt me

P.P.S be nice

Flowing smoke through hand, can look interesting and be fun

shhhh style smoking. And yes I know I have a big nose. BTW I can touch my tongue to my nose. Completely useless but now you know

Shadows with the hood smoking. Lack of an identity going on. Reminds me of the dementors from harry potter

Black and white version of the earlier one. FYI it is really difficult for smoke to show up as it is almost pure white so you need specific lighting and a whole bunch of other things to do it well.
">

and there are the photos. Any tricks or moments that anyone else has experienced that would be interesting and applicable for photography?

Also I vote for nakla
I like tangiers its just too much to smoke multiple times a day
Waking up, setting up, making coffee, and smoking is great btw

Umm........ yea I think thats everything I wanted to say so I guess I'll stop typing.

And here are the strange ones

Distorted one, done in darkness with a longer exposure and flashlight
">

Using the smoke to hide my face. Self mask theme... blah blah blah
">

Long exposure and flash light use to make the distortion. That is the original image not multiple ones combined in photoshop.

hey,

do you mind telling me, if you remember, what settings you were using on the camera. were you in a dark room using a spot, or is that also photoshop? flash? if so what kind? and what aperture/shutter settings?

thanks.

First photo - sorry it's a lot easier to copy and past the info from the photo on my site than type it in so it ends up looking like this / sorry for the camera link

Explanations - exposure is in seconds format

The first few were easier to take since I was sitting down I could get a slower shutter speed while I looked reasonably sharp but the smoke was flowing nicely. The backgrounds were dark in the first few but not enough for me so I darkened them in photoshop. In general I use lightroom for general editing and photoshop for specific things or processes.

The others are longer exposures made with the help of a dark room and a flashlight being used quickly to paint me.

For my usual smoke shots I either prefer lots of natural light or a dim room with a flash unit (not the built in one) bouncing the light from the floor or the ceiling to help diffuse the bright light and illuminate the smoke

Natural and bright light helps a lot, much easier to work with and control the setting both smoke and camera setting wise. All those were taken in manual mode I believe

hope that helps.

I wished I knew how to use photoshop. That shit confuses me :(

haha yea it took my a long time to get photoshop even basically understood. Especially since I was doing it on my own and not with any instructions or classes. Once you learn how to do the basics and the general type of edits that you like it gets a lot easier to understand the rest.

For example this photo took a lot of work to edit for me since I was editing out and trying smooth my face / make it look better while making it look reasonable real.

This one took a lot of effort to edit ( sorry not hookah related) Since it needed a lot of base set ups to make it editable and then a lot of photoshop layers and masks and layer painting to combine various body parts and it still didn't come out quite like I wanted to. I really need to go buy a cheap large black sheet that I can use as a backdrop since it would help with these type and smoking shots a lot (smoke looks a lot better with a dark contrasting background as long as there is plenty of light from an alternative source to illuminate it).

This one was a lot easier to edit in lightroom since I was simply editing contrast, s-curve, colors, etc...

This one was a simply crop and mirror experiment

On a slightly more serious note. Do any of you think that my photography level is good enough to sell a few prints even around a few coffee shops / photo micro sites / smoke shops or other places? Since it's a hobby that I do take fairly serious. I was wondering if I could make some money (at least a little bit) selling a few prints (I do know how to make good quality prints and there is a special metallic print that I'm fond of that really works well with some images).

I think if I got some models or just different people it would help a lot since I mostly experiment my photo techniques on myself that I could bring the quality up a lot. (That and selling enough prints to make a enough money to get a better camera for higher quality photos)

Just some outside influence and input would be nice on these things

Also these photos are mostly my experiment type, I do take some normal photo every now and again

For those few who are interested here is my photo site, although only a third of my images are showing since I haven't re-upgraded to a pro account yet

Also sorry if this post seems vain, I'm really not a vain or even a terribly confident person.

Also I'm really grateful to this forum, since it taught me so much about hookah stuff (that and santino). It helped me bring me level up from smoking bad tobacco incorrectly to doing it the right way. Seems like there are a lot of good people on this forum

Very cool shots. I'm actually a Film/Video and Photography major myself... do you have a really high-res version of the 5th shot? I absolutely love the value and texture of that one.

I love that last pic.

its nice and serene at first glance then apon a closer look it starts to feel dark and creepy.

(also if you stare at it from a distance it looks like a normal woodland landscape but then when you go closer the two small trees in the background look like they morph into druids dancing as the tree in the center turns into some kind of shrine or totem with a dark figure at the very top. either that or i have gone delirious from eating bad gas station hot dogs again.)

Amn_sinclair if you're serious I could get a fairly large print for you for maybe ten to twenty dollars more than it would take to make it and ship it. The company that I like to (having your own high quality printer for photos costs thousands and it is much much cheaper to have another company print it) use has a metallic print that is really interesting looking. If you want I could give you an estimate of what it would take me to make and get to me and how large I could make it and we could go from there?

and even though I'm still kinda new to the forum I am trustworthy and Santino - http://www.hookahfor...r/5294-santino/ can vouch for me.
