Anyone Ever Try Putting Shisha Through A Vaporizer?

41 posts in this topic
So, I was thinking, since a hookah is pretty much the first vaporizer, and any attempts at electronic heat sources to take over the job of the coals doesn't seem to work.. How about a normal vaporizer? Someone out there has had to try this at one point, atleast all you crazy college kids.. I'm curious if its worked or not.

Don't get me wrong, I love the experience of my hookah.. But if the same or better experience could be had, using a vaporizer, then it would seriously save on some cash in the long run, not to mention be safer, and probably easier.

I did a quick search of what is out there, and barring the huge amount of NHT references when you search for this subject, I did find that one brand said that shisha does work out of it. I believe Vapor Brothers was the name.

My only thoughts on first glance, was the construction of the vaporizer itself, and how it would hold the shisha, and what would happen to the juices, as these things are intended for drier substances than some super juicy Tangiers or something..

Any thoughts? Experiences on this one?

Did you ask a mod if this topic was okay? You might be treading on a thin line here.

Why wouldn't it be? A vaporizer is not an illicit product. It's exactly like a hookah is, dependent on what you put through it. It is not strictly for illegal NHT products. You can put tobacco through it, in addition to things like coffee, or other herbs like lavender, thyme, etc.. which have medicinal uses when you extract the essential oils from it. Shoot, the top restaurant in the entire USA (Alinea) employs the use of 15+ Volcano Vaporizers to make their entrees. They fill up a bag with vapored herbs, punch holes in the bags, then put them in a pillow case. Your plate of food is served on top of the pillow, thus slowly releasing the vapor from the weight. This sets off your sense of smell, in addition to the taste of the food, to truly give you a unique experience while eating..

So, I do not see why this would be a dangerous topic, any more than us talking about hookah and putting shisha through it, since the concepts are identical, but vaporizers use and electric heat element vs. coal in hookah.

i was thinking the same thing zinite ...

you are right barnaby, but other items aren't allowed to be discussed and they aren't supposed to be used for NHT, but they are, just like the item you are discussing in your post.

Last time I checked a vaporizer is not sold strictly for NHT purposes. Most companies sell it as effectively an @ home nebulizer for the use of inhaling the vapor of homeopathic herbs, such as lavender, thyme, sage, juniper berries, etc... If it gets used other than that, then you are not using it for its intended purpose.. Some companies say that tobacco can also be used through it, hence the reasoning for this thread. Can we use one of these for shisha, and rid ourselves of getting carbon monoxide poisoning from charcoal coals..

I agree completely, but just because certain drug paraphernalia is sold as a 'tobacco water pipe' doesn't mean it's fair game to chat about here. I'm not trying to give you a hard time - you have a legitimate, non-drug related question.

Well.. I think certain NHT water pipes are obviously are what they are, and they can say they're not until they're blue in the face but that doesn't change anything. Vaporizers are alittle bit more on the side of hookah, as it's not their original purpose. The volcano was actually made first for the medical field, but they found a market in restaurants, and homeopathy.. Obviously they get used for all sorts of things, and if this topic is too close to the line, then delete the thread, give me a mini vacation, and it won't come up again.

But I did think it was worthy of discussion, as it could be a great alternative to those who are prone to headaches from coals, or anyone who doesn't like the idea of CO getting into the mix. Plus coals being an extra expense, this is nice for those on a budget, assuming it would even work..

I'm not sure if you'd have enough room in a standard vape unit to put enough shisha to be worth it and it seems to me it would get really messy. I'm sure pipe tobacco would be good if you're into that.

I will let this stay because the discussion points from Barnaby are legitimate. but please stay towards the topic of using an electric heat source to heat the tobacco, anyone posting here would be wise to tread lightly.

Hmm.. that's a good point.. Now technically speaking a good vaporizer are supposed to be extremely efficient, and a little bit would go a long way. I think the big thing would be the juice though.. But coupled with juice going everywhere, depending on the design, and how long it actually lasts before you have to refill are going to be the 2 biggest problems.

But, like I said.. I know that Vapor Brothers says you can put shisha through their vape.. so, they've must've tried it. And I doubt they're using zagoul or something dry.. might send them an email to see what their experience was..

See, I do not smoke often enough to get perfect sessions everytime. Having a toddler and a baby cut into hookah time.. So, periodically my sessions are alittle harsh, and my lungs do feel stressed when that happens. Anything to make it more fool proof could be appreciated from time to time..

Don't get me wrong, I'm all about the experience of it, and the level ofart it takes to get everything going.. but sometimes, it'd be nice to be able to get up and going in 5 minutes instead of 15, and not be dedicated to a minimum 45 minutes if I don't want to waste my coals.. Edited by Barnaby

Thx camelflage!!!

Believe me, last thing I want to do is bring unwanted negative attention to our hobby. I feel this warranted attention, as the electric coals have turned out to be worthless, and I'm sure that there's been some investigation as to how a vaporizer does shisha. I don't know about dishing out a couple of hundred bux to experiment, when someone here probably has tried or seen this done.

Care to elaborate? Why don't you think it'd work?

The ones that I have seen just seem too small. Also anything not dry might mess it up? Just thowing things out there not really sure lol

very interesting. I def. think it might work

The only issue is with coals is that the temp. jumps when you are inhaling but with a vaporizer it will constantly keep it at the same temperature which will probably dramatically shorten the life of the bowl.

On the other hand you do get great flavor and im sure it would be a lot less harmful.

at any rate, i dont think a vapor bros will work, the angle where the shisha goes seems like it would make juice leak into the vaporizer, thus ruining it. maybe a volcano vap would work better, or one of the vaps where the bowl is pointing straight up, and the air current doesnt run through the bowl just heat

I think I might send vapor bros an email, as they say they've done it.. if anyone has an extra $700 to buy a volcano to test, let me know.. wink.gif

The only advantage here is that you keep such a large amount of shisha in a bowl, you need the temps to flucuate to avoid burning.. but if you are only using a small amount that would get an even amount of heat, I'd think that a constant temp would be ok, as long as it didn't site on it too long.. You should be done before it would burn.. atleast, that's where my logic is taking me.

I have used a vaporizor before. It reacts the same as a hookah... there are some differences tho. 1. only a smalll amount can be use 2. clouds are not as thick and big... but the flavor is there... using a vaporizor eliminates the need to "manage heat". the vaporizor heats to around 400*F ...constant temp. no burning... all vapor. its real neat... actually the last flavor I smoked was Romman Capp.... very very flavorful.

I like the traditionalness of the hookah. I wouldnt trade a hookah over a vaporizor. Yes it is easy but its still not a hookah. its hard to mix flavors, cant add flavors to the base etc... if you want to try it its worth a whirl but you will see that a hookah is better overall.

Do you remember what kind of vaporizer you used? If not the brand, do you remember if the shisha was sitting on top of the heating element?

I have a feeling if you set it to the correct temperature it will vaporize the nicotine and give you a buzz, but i'm unsure of how the flavor would be. The clouds would indeed be week though. There are different types of vaporizers; I think that a thermal conduction vape would work best for this purpose as the tobacco would come in direct contact with the heat source.

it does work. ive done it with my friend's Volcano. you just gotta set it at a proper temperature so it heats the shisha properly.

i've actually wondered about this after all the discussion about electric heating elements and all. however, since the general consensus seems to be small smoke, i won't go down that route... glad it was brought up though
